We were lucky to catch up with Samira Siddiqui recently and have shared our conversation below.
Samira, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Project Saffron is a brand for custom window coverings and one-of-a-kind home linens. We are on a journey to transform living spaces into vibrant, personalized sanctuaries by infusing the power of textiles.
Our mission is not just about creating curtains and unique home linens; it’s about shaping the emotional connection people have with their homes. I am passionate about our mission because I believe our surroundings have a profound impact on our well-being therefore, a home should transcend mere utility and functionality. Project Saffron allows me to help our customers express themselves through the artistry of interior decor, turning houses into homes and making everyday living more inspiring and beautiful.
Additionally, through our curations of one-of-a-kind home linens we aim to highlight heritage crafts such as handloom and hand block printing as well as the craftsmanship of the artisans involved in the trade of creating beautiful textiles that are used to create stunning spaces.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My personal journey is a testament to my unwavering passion for interior design and textiles. My foray into this industry was deeply rooted in my childhood in India, where surrounded by an abundance of fabrics I found inspiration for decorating spaces. I moved to the US and after graduating with a degree in Business Administration from California, I spent 10 years in New York in the Fashion industry where my taste and eye for colors and aesthetics were further refined. I then decided to re-direct my experience to pursue my true passion in the interior décor space and relocated to Los Angeles, the epicenter of architecture and design. My dream culminated in the founding of Project Saffron, a brand dedicated to crafting bespoke window coverings and artful one-of-a-kind home linens.
Our window coverings are tailor-made to meet the unique specifications of our clients, using our unmatched fabric collection from the textile-rich land of India! The curtains are crafted by our skilled artisans in India, ensuring a level of precision and craftsmanship that results in exquisite, made-to-order draperies. We proudly offer free consultations to guide our clients not only in selecting the perfect fabrics but also to help with the overall ordering process. In addition, our website offers a wealth of valuable resources to assist clients in making informed choices, including fabric selection, measuring curtain lengths, picking colors, and gaining a comprehensive understanding of design and aesthetics.
In our relentless passion for textiles, our offerings extend beyond curtains! Throughout the year, we collaborate with talented artisans in India to create exceptional home linen items for us. Through these collections we specifically focus on rich heritage crafts such as handloom, and hand-block printing to create unique throws, cushions, table covers, bedspreads and more. These items are introduced through occasional and limited releases, designed to surprise and delight our customers. For example, this year we are just about to launch a beautifully handloomed, lightweight reversible multipurpose throw that is crafted from the finest Yak wool and silk, adorned with an intricate all-over pattern!
Our brand excels in solving the timeless quest for personalization, enabling individuals to express their unique decor style through customized curtains and unique home linens. Through Project Saffron we aim to transform living spaces by turning ordinary spaces into extraordinary living environments by infusing life and character through the artistry of textiles.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
There tends to be a misconception that sprucing up a space always requires undertaking an elaborate and time-consuming interior design project. However, I’ve learned that there are simple and effective ways to rejuvenate a space that allow anyone to redesign and revamp their surroundings with ease!
One of the easiest ways to do this in my opinion is through curtains as they can play a pivotal role in transforming a space. The right choice of curtains can introduce texture, color, patterns to create visual interest and can even give the illusion of space expansion. Additional ways to refresh a space include swapping out or rearranging furnishings to change the layout and flow of the room, and adding personalized decor, such as art pieces or family photographs which can imbue a sense of character. Don’t forget the impact of lighting; a well-placed lamp or a change in bulb color can set a different mood. Lastly, houseplants and greenery can bring life and freshness to any space.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
Given the personalized nature of our tailor-made window coverings, we started off exclusively serving local clients within the Los Angeles and San Diego regions. However, we’ve realized that customers enjoy the creative process and want the flexibility and the convenience of online shopping. Therefore, we are excited to announce that soon, customers nationwide will have the opportunity to effortlessly order their bespoke curtains on our website through our user-friendly, step-by-step ordering process! This will give customers the creative control to select a fabric and customize it to their liking to match their vision. We will also continue offering complimentary virtual consultations for customers who would like our assistance in the process.
In order to maintain the integrity of the customizations required in creation of our window coverings we do not have plans to launch on other marketplaces at this time.
