We were lucky to catch up with Samira Ghani recently and have shared our conversation below.
Samira, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
People ask me why I’ve chosen to share my recipes and my knowledge when I could sell them or keep them to myself. The truth is that there is so much injustice in the world we live in and there are very few things that unite us. However, food is something everyone can enjoy. Food is a fun way to celebrate and appreciate different cultures. So I do what I can, I share recipes and bring together communities through my brand.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a recipe developer and content creator. By not charging people for my recipes, I allow for them to be more accessible! My main goal is bringing people together through my passion, food.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had a preconceived idea that I could grow my platform instantly, but that was far from true. The number of people who saw my content didn’t grow for a long time and I got really frustrated. The whole idea was to bring people together and how could I do that if nobody saw what I was putting out. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was my platform! Now, I’m infinitely grateful for the support I have from my online community and I’m excited to grow on the journey.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In general, it is hard managing being a content creator and a mom to 3 wonderful daughters. My daughters are 18, 15, and 4 years old. They have a lot of opinions and hectic lives that keep me busy! The amount of times they have told me to retake a video because it looks “cringey” is remarkable. After hundreds of retakes, their commentary started to dwindle and compliments started to increase. The biggest challenge is balancing supporting them and creating a steady stream of content, but I have learnt to take time for myself so I don’t get burnt out!!
