We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samara Zelniker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samara below.
Samara, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
An example of this is when I started out my career (in the fashion industry) I thought that I would start working for my mother who is a titan in the fashion industry. To my surprise, when I shared with her that I wanted to start working in the industry, she sais ‘ok, go get a job!’. I ended up working for a competitor of hers and gaining invaluable experience in the world of fashion.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Absolutely! I had to unlearn perfectionism and adopt the mantra that ‘done is better than perfect”. In the earlier days of putting out mindfulness courses, content and materials for clients, I worried about things needing to always be perfect or know the answers to all of their questions. I learnt humility and started to understand that what I put out did not need to look or be perfect in order to help my clients.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be authentic and show up consistently – your audience wants to feel as though you actually care and that they can relate to you or learn from you in some way or another.
