We were lucky to catch up with Samantha Tieger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
From ages 14-18, my friends and I would see artists like Brandi Carlile, Ingrid Michaelson, Joshua Radin, and A Fine Frenzy at venues around Cincinnati as often as we could, and I was mesmerized. We even saw 16-year-old Taylor Swift play a show at Walmart in Lexington. The energy of live music captivated me, and I knew that being a singer-songwriter was what I wanted to do.

Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an artist and songwriter from Cincinnati, Ohio. I started writing music, recording in local studios, and performing at coffee shops, restaurants, and bars when I was 15. I spent weeknights and weekends going to see singer-songwriters perform around town. I went to Duke University and majored in romance languages (another passion of mine), and continued to play shows in Durham and Chapel Hill. I moved to Nashville in 2020, and signed a publishing deal with The Bus Music/Universal Music Publishing last year, which was a dream come true. I’ve been fortunate to have my songs featured in American Songwriter, Earmilk, and Nashville Noise, and on television shows on CBS, The CW, and HBO.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve been navigating the music industry since early in high school. Along with some motivating encouragement, I also heard my fair share of nos. What I’ve learned is that you have to continuously visualize success, and you have to hear “no” in order to get to the yeses. I’ve learned to be persistent, trust the timing of my life, and think long-term (and not let short-term setbacks affect my confidence). Staying focused and motivated led me to finding my team and a path that I love and that I’m proud of.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
“You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero has impacted how I’ve viewed manifestation, creating your own reality, and reshaping your life with positive thinking patterns. Mindset is everything.
