Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that what it takes to be successful is action. To be successful, it takes a vision. It takes having a vision of where you are and where you want to be and taking action to move forward. I am a very driven individual and when I have an idea of what I want to do, I almost immediately take action to make it happen. I am a firm believer that if you WANT something different, you have to DO something different. People tend to hold themselves back from taking action, waiting for the perfect time, waiting for the stars to align, letting fear of failure take over and then ultimately never taking action to where the want to be.
Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Samantha Sparr. I am the owner and lead makeup artist of Glam With Sam & Co. I have a team of hairstylists and makeup artists that specialize in bridal beauty services. I got in to the makeup industry over 6 years ago in product sales and educating women on doing their own makeup. I suffered with acne my entire life which ultimately fueled my passion for makeup. I realized I could also help other women improve their confidence through makeup. I transitioned into being a full time makeup artist over 2 years ago after I had my first son. I shifted in the bridal industry when I realized I could be such an impactful part of a brides special days and help them feel the best they ever have on their big day. I quickly started growing my team so we could help more and more brides. I am very passionate about having the most kind and talented makeup artists and hairstylists on my team. We provide incredible experiences to our brides and take pride in that. Every one of the artists on my team goes above and beyond to make sure our brides look the way they want and feel their most confident in themselves to walk down the aisle. I take pride in being organized and providing incredible communication during the entire planning and wedding day process to ensure our brides can be as stress free as possible. Brides have so much on their plates, my team removes one stressor from them, they will be their most beautiful self on their wedding day.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is typically word of mouth referrals. People who have a great experience with a business will tell a few people, people who have a bad experience with a business will tell EVERYONE. Providing exceptional experiences to clients is what will keep you in business. I ask my clients to tag me in their photos they post on social media, my clients leave reviews on my pages. When prospective clients are looking to book with a business, they typically look up reviews first, and seeing first hand reviews from previous clients is huge.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My side hustle of makeup product sales and teaching women how to do makeup turned into my full time career as a makeup artist and owner of a bridal beauty business. I look back and giggle at myself seeing where I came from and learning as I was going how to even use makeup, to seeing where my business has grown to so far. A key milestone to this transition was taking the leap. Was I scared ? Yes. Did I have all the answers? No. But I took action. I took classes, certifications, I learned and I took action.
