We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Siu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.
Samantha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
I am actually currently enrolled as a full time student and am trying to fully grasp what makes a high functioning organization. My New York office is composed of budding interns hungry to obtain real life skill sets. As a up and coming entrepreneur that is on the promising path to expansion, it can be a struggle to onboard and retain loyal team members.. The biggest takeaway I have so far is the importance of understanding what motivates your workforce intrinsically and work towards fulfilling those needs. Understanding the needs of your organization rather than providing them with superficial arrangements is beneficial not only to the staff but for the culture of the company.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a NY born jewelry designer that grew up in the jewelry manufacturing industry in the 90’s and in the early 2000’s. Growing up, I had two aunts that introduced me into industry at an early age, They showed me the importance of having much while equally giving back. Because of this very unique upbringing, I was able to understand jewelry project development. I’ve always said that I see jewelry very differently than the average wearer. For the past 10 years, Samantha Siu New York has been creating well made, well thought out jewellery that encourages sustainability through multi functional designs. Our earrings can be worn in multiple ways, with some styles capable of being worn over 18 different ways. Our bracelet collection is size adjustable with the ability to transform into a necklace by combining multiple bracelets. Our signature collection, the necklaces, can be worn in 360 degrees. We love challenging how jewelry can and should be worn. The purpose of the brand is to create jewelry that creates impact. And with every purchase, 10% of the net profit provides attention to animal conservation, medical outreach, and education enhancement in developing countries. All this accomplished through our sister non profit, The Phoenix International Foundation,

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
The story of how I found my manufacturer sounds quite like a romantic cliché. After realizing I had a product, I went to my family’s factories to see whether or not they could make the jewelry. Unfortunately, they could not and I was even told it was too hard to create. I ventured out on my own during sourcing trips and tried several potential factories. But there was only one partner that was willing to take the plunge to create jewelry that was intricate and different. Each part of my company is incredibly important to me, but having an incredible manufacturer is the core to having a worthwhile product. And I am incredibly grateful to be able to produce outstanding jewelry.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I see every interaction as a footprint to my future. I think keeping your word is incredibly important. The action of doing what you said you would do saids a lot about a person. Though in all honesty, I have incidences of faltering at times, I think the most important element is not making it into a habit. I also think it is vital to treat every social interaction with respect.
