We recently connected with Samantha Rose Murray and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha Rose , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Well here it goes!
I actually started my brand back in 2015 under a different brand. The name meant so much to me-my grandma lived on that street, she was always my safe place- it was where I spent most of my childhood, had countless memories with my best friend and sister, Hailey and heck it was where I met my now husband when we were 8 years old.
I felt so attached to the name that it almost became part of my identity – unhealthily I’d say. I was young, naive but eager to take my started business to the next level. I was known for my hustle and work ethic- add in the extreme lack of knowledge of the business side- I ended up in a not so great business deal with not such great people.
There was multiple reasons for my exit, but the main reason was simply God was telling me to leave. With the birth of my son approaching, priorities changed and what he was telling me to do even though I was in complete denial- I knew it had to be done.
I felt it to my absolute core- and it might sound insane but it was one of the hardest situations that I have ever had to get myself out of. When your back is up against the wall- there is only one name to call on.
Lets fast forward to the great stuff and talk about Tasi Rose and Company!
Why Tasi? Tasi Rose and Company is named after my grandma mentioned above, Anastasia “Tasi” Fick. It was time to start a new chapter and what a better place to start it than literally my home.
Rose is my middle name and Tasi Rose, just has a ring to it :)
And Company- Simply put, you are the company you keep- so choose wisely :)
Samantha Rose , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have to be honest with you guys. I grew up a tomboy and played basketball pretty much my entire life. I was into glam things more than I would say anyone in my family growing up, however that lead to me burning my sister’s ear almost off for her prom and her hating her makeup so much, she sobbed to my mom until I took it off. ( Don’t worry guys, I made up for it and did her wedding makeup and she looked fabulous!)
I wasn’t off to a great start. When I decided to go into the beauty industry, I completely went against the grain with my family’s normal. Basketball was my first love ( and is still one of my favorite things, team MJ and KOBE baby!) One thing, probably one of the most important things I learned from it was that you are as good as the work you put in. So when I found myself wanting to get into the beauty industry with really no background or experience… I went back to what I knew and was taught by my Mom Dukes- if you want it, you work hard and you get it!
That was over a decade ago and I’ve never looked back. Of course, there were mountains to climb and obstacles to overcome but one thing about my Tas, she is relentless and I guess you can say that it runs in the Fick Genes.
I completely fell in love with glam. I have to admit, God has blessed my hands with a skill and it does feel pretty amazing when you see the “ after” Like wait, little old me did that?! But MOST IMPORTANTLY it’s the legit sparkle in my girl’s eyes that comes back when I spin them around and they see what we’ve created in the time spent!
During the week you can find me with my A1 DAY ONE hair and brow clients- most of them being with me from the beginning ( YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, we are going on a decade!:)- I may be biased but they are the best and always bring the vibes! Of course wedding trials as well to perfect the soon to be Mrs. dream bridal look.
My weekends are usually filled with traveling to my bridal babes to glam them on their big day and when I tell you, I have the ultimate dream job!
NOW WHY BRIDAL GLAM?
It wasn’t until my own wedding day that everything clicked for me. I married my childhood bestfriend ( and when I tell you our story could be an ACTUAL Netflix series, okay!)
To think of all I had been through throughout my life up until that moment- the good, bad and ugly, was all just preparation for one of God’s purpose’s in my life, and that was to be not just a wife- but the wife of my husband that God had created specifically for me.
Looking back, that day doesn’t even seem real. It was like a perfectly orchestrated dream, a fairytale if you will. How I felt that day is something quite honestly I don’t think anything can or will compare to.
Going through life with your best friend is a truly unmatched journey. And to think that I get to be a part of that journey, even if it’s just for a moment in time, makes all that I do ever so worth it.
What am I the most proud of?
First things first- my son and the family my husband and I have created. I always tell people ” Man I really thought I was doing something before I became a mom!” With another on the way, add in being a wife and starting a whole new business- I’d say that is something to be proud of :)
Well what can I say, your girl can take some hits but one thing is for sure, I’ll never not get back up. I am proud of every hardship ( and honey when I tell you life got rough rough at some points, ok.) Every single one of them has landed me exactly where I am. I wouldn’t trade it for anything- and if the little girl Sam could see where she is now, I’d say she couldn’t be more proud :)
How did you build your audience on social media?
Let me be very clear- I have such a love hate relationship with social media. Back in 2015 when I first started in the industry- I was obsessed, okay. Looking back its like dang Sam, there is only so many makeup selfies and tutorials you can post.
Now I will say, I had no fear. I was consistent, posted everyday and truly didn’t care what people thought of me and I think that helped- Because social media can be such a great marketing tool but draining as well if not used correctly. It is natural to compare yourself to others, especially when you are in the same industry. ( It’s okay guys, we all do it)
Any stylist that I have mentored, I always told them that social media is meant to inspire you. If you find yourself self doubting, comparing or insecure- its time to take a break.
I do believe that your audience likes to see consistency, in my eyes social media is the new age portfolio. And as much as some people hate to hear it, your audience likes to see your face :)
Every one starts with zero likes and followers- hone in and become the best you can be at your craft, educate yourself and I promise the likes and followers will come :)
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I touched on this a little bit earlier but I think the biggest lesson I had to unlearn was simply my lack of knowledge of the business side of things. I started my first business when I was 24 and my second I partnered at 28 years old. I knew that I wanted to own a business and build a brand, but quite honestly I depended on others when it came to all of the things I hated doing- you guessed it! THE NUMBERS, PAPERWORK, TECH- instead of putting in the work and research myself to know what was what. I guess you could say I went in blind and at the time I was okay with it.
In creating Tasi Rose and Company, I had to unlearn lessons to learn so many new ones that I really never thought I was capable of doing/accomplishing. So I’ll call that a win:)
