We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Rose Hicks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha Rose, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When you decide to start a spiritual business you do so because it’s a soul calling not a financial one. Before I started my professional business as a tarot reader and spiritual teacher I was a corporate girly in Human Resources for a huge company. I was happy and secure in my role but I wasn’t fulfilled. It wasn’t until I was sitting on the beach at 3AM while on vacation that I finally heard my inner voice and what it was calling me to do. Shortly after I took the brave step a went pro on my spiritual services but if I hadn’t stepped away from the outside noise of everyday life, I wouldn’t have heard the calling inside.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there! My name is Samantha Rose, and I am a professional Tarot Reader, Reiki Master, and Holistic Spiritual Coach. I specialize in guiding individuals toward a life they actually love living through Tarot, Reiki, Astrology, and personal one-on-one coaching sessions. Using Tarot as a mirror to the subconscious, I offer guidance and clarity. Through Reiki, I channel healing energy for balance and harmony, and through personalized coaching sessions, I provide support for self-discovery and personal growth.
If you were to ask me what I am most proud of when it comes to my business, I would say the results I see when my clients put their own happiness first. Sometimes, you need a tarot card to tell you that everything will be okay if you decide to start living for yourself instead of the happiness of others, and when I see my clients take that advice and run with it, it changes their lives. Those are the moments that make me the happiest because I’ve made a difference, and now they will, too. Happy people help people, so knowing I am making the world a better place by empowering people to live their lives in a way that provides healing and love, confirms that I am fulfilling my purpose.
Some people see it as unconventional, sure. I mean, I am using tarot cards, astrology charts, and inner child healing techniques, but I love what I do, and I know I am changing lives with my business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I would say I had to unlearn the mindset that money is evil. When you step into the spiritual space, there are a lot of unspoken rules, one of them being that you cannot accept money for your services. Now, some of this mindset comes from having to work around laws, but I am talking more about the false belief that if you charge money for your spiritual service, it ruins that service’s energy. I have found this mindset to be untrue, and it took a lot of inner work to get to this place.
When I first started, I charged very little to try to follow the “rule,” but as I have grown, I understand the value of my services and myself, and I now have no problem charging a fair price that reflects my value. My clients understand that I am a spiritual being as well as a human living in 2024 with everyday expenses. I started my business because I wanted to help people in a way that felt right to my soul. I have done this successfully, but there is nothing wrong with charging money to continue doing what I love. It sounds so simple, but it has been a difficult journey to get here and accept that I am still valid in my spiritual being even though I accept payment for services.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When you go pro in spirituality, you are already going to get some raised eyebrows. I am a tarot reader in the South, which means I face hatred in the name of religion quite often, but I do not allow this to stop me. I understand that hate comes from fear, so I am kind and compassionate to those who try to label what I do as “evil.” I know in my heart that helping people heal their inner wounds, find their personal power, and break self-sabotaging patterns is the opposite of evil. Not everyone understands what I do, and it can scare them, but I do not allow them to scare me. I know what I am doing is my purpose, so I do it despite the hatred, and I guess that would illustrate my resilience.
