We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Pratts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.
Samantha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My best friend and I started the “At the Dinner Table” podcast together to highlight local business owners in the food and wellness industry as well as local events. We actually recorded our first podcast the week of St. Patrick’s Day 2020. Little did we know, we were about to enter what we now know as the pandemic. We had to find a way to pivot since we were not able to highlight events or interview guests in person as we had planned. We recorded an episode each week for a year and a half from our bedrooms, inviting guests via zoom. We learned about our guests trials and triumphs as business owners through the pandemic. I really loved getting to know each guest on a deeper level and sharing their stories with the world.

Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2015, I began dreaming about starting a blog because I was missing a creative outlet and have always had a passion for writing. When I sat down to think about what I would write about, food was the first thing that came to mind. My husband and I have always loved to try out new restaurants and my friends would always ask me where they should eat, so it was a no brainer. I googled how to start a blog and decided that WordPress would work best for me. After shooting the idea around with my husband and my best friend who gave me the final push I needed to make the dream come true, Sassyy Foodie was born. I created accounts on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook as well to reach as many people as possible. The only thing left to do was eat, drink and share my content! During the pandemic, I also joined TikTok as much as the rest of the world did and created a podcast with my best friend. I am really proud of the connections I have made in the community with local business owners and fellow content creators.
Have you ever had to pivot?
As I previously mentioned, I had to pivot a lot when the pandemic started. Not only did it have an effect on my newly created podcast, but it also had an effect on my food blog content. Since restaurants were closed for in house dining and we were all stuck at home, I did not have any content to share. I quickly pivoted and made it my mission to share how our community could help restuarants in need. I got creative by ordering take out from local restaurants and shooting content at home. I became a huge advocate for ordering from local spots and breweries if you had the means to do so. On the contrary, I also made sure to keep my followers updated with where they could find a local food pantry or how they could help donate. I really wanted to be mindful that every person was on a different journey during that time.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect would be whenever somebody tells me that they went to my page to find a spot to eat. I am so proud that I have created a platform that is trusted by so many people.
