We recently connected with Samantha Parker and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
The online content world is filled with gurus and people shouting at you what success is. As a content creator I took a hard stand on blocking out the noise and creating content that challenged me, but also showcased what I loved. I was told over and over again to niche down, but the more I create, the more I understand that I am the niche. And by simply documenting what I love and what I’m doing, success is finding me. The opportunities are endless.
Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I firmly believe that anything can be solved with self love AND by practicing something I’ve coined, “the glitter”. The glitter is simply the act of looking for the small and magical things in your day that make it special. It’s easy to put our heads down and “do the work”. But it’s even more amazing when you look up and notice that life is happening for you, not to you. After going through a crazy roller coaster ride of depression, I knew that I had to share the tools and knowledge that I used to help me through those times. That was 8 years ago.
My life and business has evolved from there, but today, I am so happy to be able to put out something in the world that is making a positive impact. From The Glitter Podcast, to my random videos, and the content I make for my clients, I fill that I am doing something that matters.
And yes, I’m proud of that.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Business and life is a giant pivot. About three years into my business journey I decided to create and co-found an online magazine, Badassery Magazine. We had pretty good success with the brand and the podcast (even featuring Gary Vee), but the core and drive of myself and my business partner declined.
When we shut the brand down I walked away with a massive pile of debt, but I just hit the ground running. I kept my own personal brand The Samantha Parker, always active and I started to build a client list again.
There are more times than I can mention where I’ve had to shift and weave. When I find myself miserable, and dreading that laptop, I like to take a hard look at why. It’s my life and my business, I get the permission slip to make changes.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I always love to talk about how I’ve slowly and very organically built an online audience. Here’s the truth…it’s hard work. You can take a million “how they gained 100K followers courses”, but they don’t have any magical secrets. You just have to stay extremely consistent for several years.
That’s the absolute truth.
I also highly recommend always being willing to approach things flexibly. When I started building online Facebook Groups were all the rage. Now we are making fun TikToks and inspiring people with short videos.
You have to be willing to adjust!!!
