We were lucky to catch up with Samantha Naht recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Samantha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My heroes are my parents, who unfortunately are no longer here. They are the reason I am who I am today. They came to America with nothing & had no clue what they were getting themselves into but knew no matter what they were going to make it work. 5 kids later and they made life happen for us, struggles & all. They’ve influenced me in so many ways. Watching them work so hard, early morning late nights, we never missed a meal. Thrifting started with them. It was so normal growing up, I remember my dad being able to find a pair of slacks for .50 cents and if it were more than $2.00 he’d put it right back 😂😂 Our local goodwill was our mall & I hope that one day Leila will enjoy it as much as I do (right now she doesn’t have a choice 🤣) but I also want her to know there is absolutely nothing wrong with secondhand shopping!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Samantha & I run a small online Kids Vintage/Modern shop. Our business began in 2020 in the midst of Covid & moving across the country. I’ve always thrifted for myself & I started slowly thrifting for my daughter so the thought of finding such cool finds and selling it online randomly crossed my mind. With the push of my Fiancé (hey boo) my closest friends and of course my family, I decided to just give it a try. I told myself if I don’t sell this amount of items then fine it was a lesson learned and move on and find a job. I honestly wasn’t sure if this was going to work or how it was going to work but it did & we sold out on our very first sale & we were so so so ecstatic and honestly in disbelief. I mean believe it or not till this day, I’m still in disbelief on how well we’re doing. I pride myself in exceptional customer service, communication is such a major key & so far I haven’t had any bad feedback (knock on wood) so I’m hoping to keep it that way. Also, I can happily say that I gained so many friendships running this shop. Some people that I talk to literally everyday now. It’s amazing to connect with people who also enjoys what you do, supports you even outside of social media & just people you can talk to, strangers become friends & I am forever grateful to have that.
What I’m most proud of is our growth. We’re so close to 10K followers and I still am in awe of how fast we are growing. We are nothing without our supporters so if y’all are reading this, y’all are the real MVPS & thank you guys so much for supporting us ❤️
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Tell friends to tell their friends that will mention it to their friends so we can all be friends lol. No seriously, you are nothing without your family & friends support. Word of mouth is a real thing and once people hear or see things they’ve never seen or remembering nostalgic items, they’ll be curious enough to send a message or start to follow and will support you in some sort of way. POST POST POST. Engagement is real, post things that will catch people’s attention! Lastly, don’t be afraid to start, you never know where you’ll end up or you’ll never know the amount of support you’ll receive from complete strangers if you never try 💖
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped us build our reputation is how effective I am in running the shop. With sourcing, packing, shipping, posting, communication etc, I literally give 100% when it comes to our shop. Also of course everyone who actually love us & support us. Not everyone is going to & I think that comes with doing anything in your life but those who really do support you will 1000000000000% help and push you to do better & recommend you to their friends & family who will send your info to their friends & family and so forth. It’s like 80/20, 80% of your followers/supporters love you & will support you no matter what but that 20% will just watch on the sidelines & sadly some will want you to fail. But that 80% baby will help your growth & send your business to everyone they know.
