Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha Marshall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Samantha, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
As a solopreneur, I’ve built Studio 151 Photography from the ground up—creating, and growing each aspect of the business myself. This journey has been about more than just photography; it’s been about building something meaningful that reflects my values and vision. From day one, my goal wasn’t just to run a business but to create a space where people could express themselves and feel truly seen. That’s what drives me.
I’ve learned over the years that creativity has this unique way of breaking down walls and building relationships. It’s not just about capturing a great shot and it certainly is not about how much your equipment costs; it’s about helping people see their best selves and giving them the confidence to share that with the world. For me, it’s about impact. It’s about using my work to help others grow, connect, and succeed.
My mission is simple: to do work that matters and to leave behind something meaningful. I’m not chasing awards or recognition—I’m focused on the people, the relationships, and the impact we create together. As a photographer, teacher, business owner, and member of my community, I care about lifting others up and being part of their journey, no matter where it takes them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Samantha Marshall, the owner of Studio 151 Photography in Sterling, Virginia. What started as a personal hobby has grown into a full-service photography studio specializing in headshots, professional branding, corporate event photography, and teaching photography classes. From the beginning, my mission has been to help people feel confident and seen, creating imagery that reflects their personality and goals.
I launched my first business in 2013 out of my home, and opened my first brick and mortar studio in 2015. Today, Studio 151 Photography operates out of my second larger, dedicated space where I work with individuals, businesses, and groups to tell their stories through photography. I also offer workshops and classes, helping aspiring photographers master everything from posing and lighting to creative editing.
My services include:
• Headshots & Branding: Perfect for professionals and business owners looking to elevate their image and showcase their brand.
• Corporate Event Photography: Capturing the energy, connections, and key moments of events like conferences and team gatherings.
• Photography Classes: Teaching camera basics, advanced techniques, and creative skills to help others grow their craft.
• Special Sessions: Senior photos, family portraits, and unique experiences like holiday-themed photo events.
What sets Studio 151 Photography apart is a combination of technical expertise and a people-first approach. As a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) with a Master of Photography and a Photographic Craftsman credentials from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), I ensure every image meets the highest standards. Beyond that, I’m known for making clients feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, which results in authentic, impactful photos.
I’m also committed to community impact. Through events like the Loudoun Disability Resource and Employment Fair and the Women in Technology Job Fair, I use my skills to give back—offering headshots to job seekers and supporting local organizations, including non-profits.
I’m proud of how far my studio has come, from being published in Oprah Magazine to earning awards like “Best of Loudoun 2024” for event photography. More than anything, I’m proud of the trust my clients place in me to capture their stories.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
At Studio 151 Photography, I believe that photography is about relationships as much as it is about creating beautiful images. I stay connected with my clients in meaningful ways to ensure they feel valued long after their session.
1. Personalized Follow-Ups: After every session, I reach out to ensure clients are thrilled with their images and offer any support they might need. I love hearing about how they’re using their photos—whether for their website, LinkedIn, or personal milestones.
2. Exclusive Offers: I keep clients informed about new offerings, seasonal promotions like fall family sessions, and special events such as Small Business Saturday events and Exclusive Headshot offers. These limited, unique experiences encourage them to come back and share the joy with others.
3. Educational Content: Through workshops and social media posts, I provide value beyond sessions. Whether it’s sharing posing tips, lighting tricks, or photography basics, I position myself as a resource, fostering trust and ongoing engagement.
4. Community Involvement & Events: I often reconnect with clients at community events, job fairs, and workshops where I donate my time and services. These touchpoints build loyalty while reinforcing my dedication to giving back.
5. Thoughtful Client Gifts & Check-Ins: For milestone clients, I occasionally send small gifts or notes to let them know I appreciate them. Whether it’s recognizing a recent business success, a birthday, or a referral, these personal gestures show I care.
6. Social Media Engagement: I love celebrating my clients by featuring them on social media, tagging their businesses, or sharing their stories. It’s a way to amplify their success while deepening our connection.
By blending professionalism with a personal touch, I’ve built long-term relationships with clients who trust me to capture life’s milestones, professional goals, and everything in between. At Studio 151 Photography, my goal is always to make clients feel important, understood, and excited to return.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Running a small business means facing unexpected challenges, and some of the toughest moments have also been the most defining for Studio 151 Photography. During harder times, when everything felt uncertain, I leaned into what I’ve always believed: creativity and connection can carry us through.
When in-person sessions weren’t possible, I found new ways to bring people together by hosting virtual photography meetups. These meetups became a space for connection and inspiration, giving people a chance to share ideas and find joy through creativity when we all needed it most.
I also wanted to bring a little light to families navigating their own struggles, so I offered outdoor, socially distanced photo sessions—for free. These sessions became a way for families to create joyful memories and celebrate moments that mattered. Many of those families are still part of my community today, and some have even become friends.
When life began to settle again, Studio 151 didn’t just pick up where it left off—we came back stronger. I carried forward lessons in adaptability, the power of community, and the importance of showing up for others. Today, as I work in my second, larger studio, I’m reminded that resilience isn’t just about weathering the storm. It’s about staying true to your purpose and turning challenges into opportunities to grow, connect, and inspire.
