Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha Maksutovic. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Samantha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Picking a name for a business can be really challenging. I struggled to come up with a name for my beauty business. After researching “the best business name,” I realized that there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Many companies change their names more than once, and that’s okay. I initially wanted to include my last name, “Maksutovic,” in the business name, but I knew it would be difficult for people to pronounce and remember. After a lot of thought, my husband suggested “Niš Beauty,” named after my dad’s hometown. It was perfect, simple, and meaningful. My dad had passed away about a year after I started my business, so I wanted to do something to honor him and keep his memory alive. The name “Niš Beauty” has remained the same to this day, and both our clients and we love it!
Samantha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Samantha Maksutovic, and I have been working as an esthetician for 6 years. I opened my own business 2 years ago. After graduating from San Diego State University, I worked as a teller at Wells Fargo for 3 years. Although the next step for me was to become a banker, I didn’t feel passionate about it. Going to work every day started to feel like a chore. I took the opportunity to quit and figure out what I really wanted to do. After being unemployed for 6 months, I discovered my passion. I got a job at a salon as a receptionist and decided to attend beauty school. From then on, going to work no longer felt like a chore. I realized that I had a deep love for beauty and helping my community.
In my line of work, I specialize in natural lashes, results-driven facials, and Brazilians. We help our clients regain their confidence and feel valued. We strive to create unique and unforgettable experiences for our clients, paying close attention to the little details that matter, from the service provided to the treatment room itself, and even after the treatment. We go beyond beauty talk, wishing our clients happy birthdays and checking in to see how their mom is doing after a major surgery.
We are deeply passionate about our work, and our clients’ loyalty, referrals, and community support reflect that. We are always honest about the results we can achieve and welcome everyone. We understand that we may not be the right fit for everyone, and we are okay with that. Our goal is to create an environment where clients feel cared for, listened to, and supported throughout their entire experience with us, from the moment they book until the end of the service and even after. Building a relationship with our clients and earning their trust is more important to us than the service itself.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I used to dislike Instagram and had a hard time finding my voice and branding. I would compare myself to other estheticians and feel like a victim, wondering why I didn’t have as many followers as them. I’ve learned not to compare myself to others and to focus on my own path. It took me a while to realize this, but being authentic has helped me grow into who I want to be. After coming up with different plans and posting content for my current clients, I checked my analytics, kept what worked, and changed what didn’t. This is how I found my voice on social media. Being able to pivot and try different things will be super helpful in the long run.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Before starting my own business, I worked as a lead esthetician, managing a team of 4 estheticians. It was challenging to ensure that everyone was trained to the same high standard and to maintain the quality of services and brand. The key lesson I learned from this experience is the importance of having a strong team that supports the brand. When everyone is aligned and working towards the same goals, it creates a great team dynamic. It’s also crucial to understand your team members – their learning styles, what motivates them, and to build strong business relationships, which ultimately contributes to the overall growth of the business.
