Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha Mack . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Samantha , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Three words: TRIAL AND ERROR! I got my degree in Interior Design from Baylor in 2019, and, while I learned the basics of CAD, spacial planning, and general conceptual ideas, working in the real world was the most significant growing experience. Right out of college, I took an internship which taught me job site etiquette and how to work coherently with subcontractors. From there, I took a job with a building company, where I got to expand on my own creative ideas and see them come to life from start to finish. Practically, I learned the processes of ordering finishes, working with different materials, and building rapport with clients and vendors. In July of 2023, I took a bold step and started my company, Mack Design Co.. In this new and exciting adventure, I have gotten the opportunity to hone my craft and make it my own. Being a one woman show, I have learned to manage the business side of things: balancing the books, running social media and marketing, and independently overseeing my projects. Creatively, I have seen my skills and ideas flourish. Seeing projects build upon themselves has been so rewarding. It is certainly a challenge to be an business owner at 27, but I am more confident than ever in my title as, not only founder of Mack Design Co., but also visionary, communicator, mediator, artist, and Pinterest expert. Seeing one project to the finish line and the joy of a client walking into their new home, I knew I wouldn’t trade the obstacles, tears, or hurdles for anything.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
There is a significant misconception that comes with the title, “Interior Designer.” The word designer automatically sets me apart from a vast group of people because it states that I have a studied degree in this field. I’m not just a pillow and coffee table connoisseur. I love to get into the particulars of how to make your home most functional and personal. I join together architecture with aesthetics. What I always say is this: if you flipped your house upside down, whatever sticks is what I pick. I specialize in the selection of cabinet and hardware design, tile layouts, light fixtures, countertops, door styles, trim details, fireplace surrounds, etc. The work is the perfect mixture of imagination and conventionality. It is most challenging and most gratifying to have my hand in every part of this process and to be able to walk my clients through each step.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is simple: to help families love the home THEY have created. I know firsthand that home is wherever your family is, and I just come in to help them make their spaces beautiful. Seeing my clients’ visions and ideas come to fruition is the driving force behind all that I do.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The greatest pivot I have taken was when I started my company in July of 2023. I went from working in an office with coworkers and constant interaction to working from home with my coworkers me, myself, and I (and occasionally my sister’s massive puppy, Maverick). I knew that after a couple years working for a builder, I had gained such important skills and learned so much about the industry that I just had to try it for myself. My experience there was so invaluable, but it was time for a leap of faith. Owning and managing Mack Design Co. has taught me to be thankful for the support that has gotten me here and to look forward to the new relationships and experiences still ahead of me.
