We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Langworthy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.
Samantha, appreciate you joining us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
I had a customer from California take interest in my candles and wax melts. She had put in a big order in which I was eternally grateful for. I made everything up, packed it and shipped it out in a timely manner. Once the customer got the package, she had informed me that half her candle order was missing and showed me the package as it had arrived which had looked as if it was torn open then repackaged again. It was the most bizarre occurance as I knew I packed everything up with some extra goodies and for it to be missing didn’t make sense. The manager at her post office had opened the package and stolen the items. I felt really bad at this experience for my customer and offered to make more items for her. In doing so, she became one of my most loyal snd big sale customers.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In January of 2023, Jane Moe Designs had been rebranded from Jane of Art, which was specific to paintings, to its’ current name starting off with vinyl stickers and decals. Moving forward and with many ideas ahead, other products such as custom clothing, organic candles, wax melts, soaps, sugar scrubs and soon to be released shampoo bars and deodorant sticks began being produced. With support from family, friends and loyal customers, we have grown to where we are today. Our mission being to introduce homemade organic products and be a all natural business.
As the owner of Jane Moe Designs, I strive to create all natural self-care products that promote health and beauty. As well as self-care products, I also can create custom designs as stickers, decals, clothing and more.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The most important thing about an online presence is consistency. Taking hold of a social media page(s) can be a full time job in itself so being consistent with posting and promoting is key to gaining a huge following. Over the past year, that’s all I’ve been doing is promoting, posting and also partaking in raffles and giveaways. It gives others a chance to test out products and puts the fun into it. Collaboration with other small businesses help as well to expand your business and online cilentele.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Yes, I produce and home make all of my products. Before jumping into making them, I made sure to research how to make them. I had to be completely confident in the process or I wouldn’t make them. That goes for any product. If a customer comes to me asking about making a product, I research first then provide them with the decision on if I can make it or not. I’m always honest and if I can’t make something they are looking for, I send them to another small business for their product needs.
