We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Kozuch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The idea of creating the Maniscripting Journal into a physical product came to me around the summer of 2020. I was an online business coach helping entrepreneurs start and grow their online businesses and around this time was when the whole world was locked down. I had first started really sharing my morning routine and scripting practice of Maniscripting at the end of 2019 and I started talking about it more on social media during Covid as there is
Once the download came to me, I immediately took action on it. That’s the type of person I am (Taurus plus Manifestor in human design). I had never created a physical product before. Every company that I had prior was either online-based or I was the actual talent. The first thing I did was I went to Google and also asked my fiance, who did have experience in the ecommerce industry on what to do next.
From there, Google and Youtube were my best friends to learn how to create and manufacture a physical product. I first created my digital file of the journal and set up a beta test group of women to work with me and use the journal for 30 days. We had weekly check in calls so I could get feedback on the journal and process. From there, I went on to find a manufacturer to make the journal. I placed an order for a sample and once I received that I immediately placed an order for 2,500 journals.
During the manufacturing process, I heavily focused on building an online community for the journal. I knew from my previous businesses and being a coach the importance of building a community and email lists for launch.
I had then launched pre-sale for the journal at the end of September 2020 as the journals were enroute from overseas just in time for Christmas… and then that’s when we got the news that all container ships were held just outside of the Los Angeles Port and backed up for weeks. We didn’t receive our first load of inventory until January 2021. Even though our shipment was far delayed, our customers and community were so supportive because we communicated what was happening with our inventory and how it was out of our control – the entire country was experiencing delays in all industries with shipping so it was very easy to navigate this messaging.
This entire time from creating this physical product, to launching and selling – i had ZERO idea what i was doing. I just kept going, step by step, and took things day by day. It wasn’t easy and definitely stressful at times, but I’m so happy that I took this download that I received and ran with it to complete execution – I wouldn’t change any part of it for the world!
Samantha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Samantha Kozuch, the founder of Maniscripting. I have been an entrepreneur since I graduated from college and instead of going to med-school decided to take a year off and “figure it out” which then led to multiple startups and lots of pivots in the last decade. Every business that I’ve ever started came to me through my intuition and downloads from source. I have always been one to follow my gut and just go for it, even if it didn’t make logical sense. I’ve been a full- time model, a fitness influencer before the term influencer was coined, I had a video production company making marketing and product videos for brands (which today would be called a UGC agency), and I then had a coaching business teaching them how to start and grow their online business using social media. Each business pivoted into the next, and every single one gave me skills that I needed in that next business – it’s crazy to think about how every single pivot I made had its purpose and was never a waste of time.
The Maniscripting Journal is the physical manifestation of a traumatic event that I experienced 8 years ago which served as my wake-up call, compelling me to make significant changes in my life. I became deeply fascinated with the idea of creating my own reality and embarked on a path of self-discovery, self-development and manifestation. Through my studies and personal experiences, I developed a daily morning routine and ritual practice that helped me align with my desires and manifest incredible outcomes.
Witnessing the challenges faced by my community during the Covid-19 pandemic, I felt compelled to share my knowledge and rituals with others on social media. I had already started sharing my practices for the first time at the end of 2019, but it wasn’t part of my “brand” as a business coach as it was more on the spiritual side and I hadn’t shown that side of me on social media yet. Once I started talking about it, I got so much good feedback on my scripting and manifestation process. I knew at that point I was on to something!
This led to the creation of the Maniscripting Journal—a powerful tool that combines manifestation techniques, goal-setting, self-development and getting clear on what you want and don’t want for your life —to empower individuals to tap into their inner power, manifest their dreams, and live a life of abundance and fulfillment. It is backed by an incredible community of women who hold space and support each other through the ups and downs of life and going through a transformational process!
I’m most proud of the women who are inside this community and who have purchased a journal. They are literally healing not only themselves but passing it on to others in the world through their actions. Most people think they’re purchasing the journal to manifest their desires, but really their healing, getting clear and purging what is no longer serving them in their lives – it’s a literal life changer of a journal. I’m proud of every single woman who has done the work and I’m so proud to be a part of each woman’s journey.
The Maniscripting community is just getting started. I have huge plans for this brand and community. It’s going to be extremely exciting to watch it grow.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have SO MANY stories… Every other day is a story of growth, lessons and resilience.
Every other day I feel like we get hurtful or mean messages on social media or reviews (and in my world, I know hurt people love to hurt people so I understand it’s not really the journal that’s the problem but lots of outside factors), but it’s really hard to not take things personally when it’s a product you created based on personal experience and your personal method.
There have been many times over the last couple of years where I’ve come across a comment or message with someone trashing the journal and I have definitely cried over it. Those are the days that I want to throw in the towel because my goal is to just help people get out of their own way and change their lives – and the ones that leave comments like that are always the ones that need the help of this journal the most. I’m human and I do have thick skin, but sometimes these keyboard warriors and trolls are so brutal that they don’t realize there’s another human reading these comments.
Today, I have a team who filters those messages so I don’t have to see them as often and so I can continue supporting the women in my community who are open and ready to change their lives using the journal.
It all goes to show how much healing this world needs and why I do everything I can to keep this company going, even on the days that I feel like it’s not appreciated.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My background is in social media growth and the best way to start and build an online social media presence is to get super clear on the ideal customer you want to reach, create content around that, and be very consistent with posting content. Use platforms that get super easy and high reach, for example, TikTok right now is really great for starting on social media because the chances of going viral are so much higher than Instagram (from what I have experienced).
If you are a founder, regardless of what type of product or offer you have, you HAVE to show your face on stories and if you don’t want to do it – hire someone to do it. If you want to build a strong community – you HAVE to build connections with your followers. Doing weekly lives, BTS and involving your community with building out the company goes a long way! We still to this day create products and make changes to our journal from the feedback that we get from our community.
