We were lucky to catch up with Samantha Faries recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
What started as doing a few hairstyles on friends when I was 16 turned into a salon suite where I get to live my dream every day. I started taking clients as an assistant and then eventually went on the floor at a booth rental salon so I could build my clientele. Once I felt established enough, I knew I wanted to take my business to the next level and create my own luxury experience for clients. I have always been known for being the “small-town country girl” and to say I’m proud of that is an understatement. I loved hair, but I wanted to create a space that felt like home to me. So, I opened a salon suite in Prosper, TX, called Wild Palomino. I play lots of country music, have a guitar on my wall, and a strong Southern accent (at least that’s what I’ve been told).
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The hair industry is growing and evolving more each day. I believe it’s so important to stand out and be true to who you are. I am focused on creating hair goals from blondes, brunettes, extensions, and bridal looks but I feel who I am sets me apart as a stylist. I fell in love with hair after doing my sisters bridal hair and I instantly knew that making people feel beautiful was my passion. Although my heart is in the hair, it’s a beautiful thing when you can build a brand on who you are. That’s exactly what I did, I focused on doing the best hair possible while keeping my “western glam” flare.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media was a key part in building my business. It is your portfolio but also how you showcase your personality to potential clients! People like to be entertained but also want to know who you are. So I try to show the hair process as well as what to expect when sitting in my chair. Odds are there is going to be singing and a country catch phrase involved somewhere in the process.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The hair industry is such a hidden gem if you ask me, which makes me proud to be a part of it. Being surrounded by passionate people who constantly push you towards greatness is hard to come by and why I get so fired up about what I do. If you asked me why I started this many years ago, I would have said “to make people feel beautiful”, which is still true to this day, but even more now. These clients, coworkers, and friends I’ve met along the way remind me why I do this. I get to be a therapist, creator, scientist, mentor, teacher, the list seriously goes on and on. It’s not easy and it’s an overwhelming job to take on but the reward is worth it.
