We recently connected with Samantha Craig and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
It’s pretty simple, actually. So many businesses wind up with unmemorable and indistinguishable branding devoid of genuine human emotion (late-stage capitalism, much?) because their design studios have 0 foundational knowledge of visual culture, and thus lack the ability to contextualize the brand within a larger legacy. Juno is on a mission to change that, and yes, this is the hill we will die on.
This is really Juno’s hottest take: the most important part of building a legacy brand isn’t the data. It’s taking a beat to genuinely understand and embody your bigger purpose in this world, and creating accordingly. Juno’s signature, stand-out method of subliminally positioning your visual identity within the larger context of historical visual culture sets your legacy up for the long haul. Not human-first, but humanity-first.
Samantha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Before I founded Juno, I cut my creative teeth in the high-stakes art industry after earning my BA in Art History and MA in Museology from NYU. I spent the better part of the last decade working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, studying 5,000 years of human creativity, and helping to conceptualize, strategize, and execute some of the world’s top exhibitions.
Put simply: I know what moves people. Now, I use my expertise to develop comprehensive creative concepts rooted in historical context and visual culture to take our clients’ brands beyond the data.
As for Juno Creative itself, we’re a brand + web studio based in New York City specializing in bespoke legacy brands that speak to a better world. We believe that the best, most beautiful work is rooted in our past, present, + future, + that contextualization is the missing key to building long-lasting brands with meaning that actually connect with consumers.
Clients have been featured in Allure, Cosmo, HBO, Essence, HuffPost, + more.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner, Taylor Grosse, through a business program we joined independently and quickly became friends. Business was picking up more quickly for Juno and Taylor was looking to switch things up, and it worked out very well that we had complementary skillsets that made for a good working relationship.
Having already discovered that we were totally aligned on personal values, we found that it was easy to trust each other in business as well.
