We recently connected with Samah Abukhodeir and have shared our conversation below.
Samah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
At The Florida Probate & Family Law Firm, we’re passionate about helping and representing underserved communities throughout Florida. Our headquarters are in Miami, FL, a city known for its diverse Caribbean and Latin American communities. We also proudly serve a significant Arab and Muslim community throughout the state. Our team takes great pride in connecting with clients from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Our law firm is made up of a diverse group of attorneys and team members, representing various religions, ethnicities, and genders. This diversity allows us to better understand and serve the unique needs of our clients, especially those who may be underserved or underrepresented in the legal system.
I myself come from an underserved community. My parents came from Jerusalem to the United States in 1987 with nothing to their names. They settled in Lake Wales, Florida, which is a small town in central Florida that is not very well known. We were the only Arab-American family in our town. Both of my parents put their dreams on hold to make sure me and my sisters were taken care of and were afforded every educational opportunity to become successful young women. My mother worked odd jobs and my father took on a job where he could use his medical background to take care of their family.
By helping families like ours, I know that the sacrifices my parents made were worth it.
Samah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Samah Abukhodeir. I also go by “Sam” since it’s easier to pronounce. My family is from Jerusalem and I’m Palestinian-American. Although my dream was to become a doctor like my father, I became a lawyer in 2013 after I passed the Florida bar and soon after began to practice. In 2017, I opened my law firm, The Florida Probate & Family Law Firm. I am the owner and managing partner of the firm which employs over 25 team members with headquarters in Coral Gables, Florida, and offices across Central and South Florida.
I have a passion for creating a business that fosters a familial relationship among employees to promote a positive work environment that provides the best quality of service to our clients. I’ve built the firm philosophy which states, “We don’t build cases, we build relationships.”
That is why at The Florida Probate & Family Law Firm, we help you take care of what matters most…your family. We help families going through the toughest times of their lives…death and divorce. We are a dedicated team that strives to understand our client’s needs and goals by specializing in religious and cultural diversity in times of pain.
I pride myself in our team’s dedication to empower underrepresented communities in the legal system.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I love this question because my mom is actually my biggest marketing source! She carries my business cards everywhere she goes- the supermarket, restaurants, doctor’s appointments- and anytime she hears that anyone needs an attorney, she always recommends my firm. I have a few funny stories from her but one of them is when a random lady at the supermarket approached my mother and asked if she was my mom. My mother very proudly stated in her very Arabic accent “if you need an attorney, my daughter is the best one in Florida. Follow her on Instagram.” And yes, the lady did end up following me on social media and even retained the firm!
Without a doubt she is my biggest supporter and has an honorary title of “head of marketing”.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
For us it is a little different since we are providing a service, specifically legal representation. We recognize the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients. We prioritize clear and consistent communication via phone or email, as well as provide clients with frequent updates on the progress of their case. The firm also encourages clients to ask questions and voice any concerns they may have throughout the legal process. Many of our clients come to us through referrals from previous clients. We’re grateful that our clients trust and appreciate the quality of work and service we provide. By prioritizing open communication and using client feedback to improve our services, The Florida Probate & Family Law Firm has developed a loyal client base that trusts and values our work.
Of course, we also recognize the importance of marketing. We want to stay top of mind with our clients even after their cases have ended, so we provide small reminders that we’re here if they ever need us. In today’s digital age, law firms have had to adapt to new marketing methods. We have a strong online presence and are active on our social media platforms. Our following grows every day, and our goal is to provide educational content to prospective clients and anyone who follows us. We hope that by sharing our knowledge about the legal system, our followers will think of us first if they ever need legal representation.
