Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sam Wilder. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I believe that it is impossible to make your way through the entertainment industry without feeling misunderstood in some sense. On one hand, being misunderstood can hurt and make you feel like your attempts to impress are pointless. On the other hand, I think it is extremally important for fans and listeners to create their own meaning behind your songs. Everybody is searching for something to heal them and sometimes you might help someone who discovered a whole new meaning to your music that you didn’t even know was there.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Singer/Songwriter based in Atlanta, Georgia and I primarily create ballad/pop music. Honestly, its hard for me to remember how I got started because I was just making everything up as I went. As a newcomer from the south, I was really nervous to break into this new industry because I felt like I was on this journey alone. It took me some time to find my bearings, but I was lucky enough to meet some incredible people who were also trying to make their way through the industry. Having a group of friends, or friend who is going through similar life experiences really changes they way you view your own circumstances. After moving back to Atlanta, I have been working on some very exciting new music and cant wait to send it out into the world!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Artists need to be able to express themselves without any sort of intervention preventing them from creating something new and fresh, Its hard to feel creative when your ideas/vison gets shut down and I think there is always a need for new and unique music to be made. Without innovation in the industry, music begins to all feel the same.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I hope that my music is able to aid in whatever situation someone is going through. Whether they need an escape from the noise of life or just find my music enjoyable to listen to. It is very easy to feel isolated because of certain life circumstances, and for me, songwriting has helped heal the part of me that yearned to be creative. Music is a very powerful thing, and a hope that I am somehow able to leave my own mark on the industry.
