We were lucky to catch up with Sam Watson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

All the projects I’ve worked on for myself hold great meaning, but if I had to choose one, it would be my current single Wayside Rd. The creative process was life-changing, and although I didn’t realize it at the time, I knew it would have a profound impact on my life.
A thirty-second dream sparked the idea for Wayside Rd, with the beat and lyrics, including the words Westside and Wayside, clearly audible, prompting me to quickly record a voice note and bring the concept to life.
I contacted some producers, told them my idea and we created the instrumental within an hour & a half.
I knew I needed a warm female vocal to compliment my vocals. So I contacted my friend De’Laisa, told her my idea before I started and she was immediately on board. Lastly, couldn’t do it without my guy K.Huff who’s featured on the track. This was a comeback for the both of us.

Sam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

As a singer-songwriter, producer, studio engineer and more, I offer services that help artists achieve their vision. With great responsibility comes the weight of expectation from those who depend on my expertise. I’m proud of my growth over the years and happy to have assisted those who’ve sought my help. The music industry can be unforgiving, but with the right mindset, discipline and mastery of one’s craft and business, it’s possible to navigate its challenges, including the often-overlooked mental and physical demands of fame and success.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?

One thing non-creators often fail to grasp is the immense pressure we creators put on ourselves to constantly produce something new and innovative, which can be overwhelming for some artists. However, knowing that we are deeply invested in our craft and will fiercely protect it is crucial. All we ask for is a little grace and patients.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My mission is to create music that rekindles fond memories and sparks new ones, blending nostalgic elements with modern style to create a timeless sound that nourishes the mind, body, and spirit. Hearing how music is today, it motivates me heavily.
