We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sam Watson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Independent artist, companies, etc. That’s something I see everyday and I think that’s a very important factor when it comes to music industry. That let’s me know that someone like me who’s trying to make into the music industry can be successful. I believe if you take the time to study business, explore more ways of making your mark in this world, then you too can succeed in life. But remember it takes time and could be years before you get to the level you’re trying to achieve and that’s ok.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey guys. My name is Sam Watson. I’m a singer-songwriter, producer, vocal producer, & studio engineer.
I’ve been singing my whole life but I’ve been working officially in the studio for almost 10 years now. I’ve worked with great artists during my 10 year run. I even got a chance to engineer Eric Bellingers vocals.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with famous tiktoker, Mikailadancer.
I grew up a music head. My whole family is musically inclined in some way. Singers, rappers, production, teaching, label owners, you name it. Being exposed to that type of thing everyday was wonderful. This gift was given to me and it has been used in beautiful way. My brand represents me, what I stand for and what I stand for is the love of music.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I use social media. Specifically Instagram because that’s where most of my clientele come from. My presence there is very strong. The support there is present and it’s never stopped. Some people I’m close to contact by phone or go to their events to support them. As long as the love is there, we’re set.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’m an artist first plain and simple. I acquired these other talents along the way. I love the fact that I could engineer my own sound. I was currently working my new project. I had everything set to work on but at some point I had to put that to the side. Back in December of 2021, I was booked for the whole month to engineer some other projects. I took up my time almost everyday. People had deadlines to meet and there was no room for error. Me not working on my project, plus not having time to myself was very stressful physically and mentally. It was too much for me. I was busy but never that busy to the point where I couldn’t make time for myself and others.
