We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sam Phish. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sam below.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I am completely self-taught, with over 50 instruments learned completely by ear. I think the thing that helped the most was learning basic music theory, which helped me relate instruments to eachother. However, this was my major struggle because I was being taught piano theory as a guitarist, and it just didn’t quite make sense to me. Once I figured it out on guitar, it was so much easier.
Sam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Electric Sunnshine is the loudest band in the midwest. With this project, I strive to recreate the way that rock and roll used to be, in that 60’s-70’s Golden Era. All vintage tones and equipment, a strong foundation in blues and rock, and a love for doing things by hand drives the whole band. All of our merch is hand made in-house, all of the songs are written and recorded by Sam Phish in their entirety. In essence, it’s the most personal band you could follow because it’s one person, listening to you just as much as you do them.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Dogwater. Basically a scam. Next question?
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Finally getting a track or album completed, and getting to listen to the whole thing with all of my friends for the first time.
