Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sam Harrell . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sam , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I was sitting behind a Two Men And A Truck moving van in traffic. I liked that their name was casual and fun. So I thought to myself, how do I answer calls…I say, “This is Sam, The Garage Door Guy returning your call!” I then did a Google search to make sure nobody else had the name. No matches. A name was born!

Sam , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Sam Harrell, and I have a one-man residential garage door repair business that serves all of Metro Atlanta, Georgia. I didn’t set out originally to have my own business. I had worked at Overhead Door Co of Atlanta for a few years, and got all my training from them. I left them in 2014 and went on to have a few more different kinds of jobs. Sales, tour bus driving, etc. While I was driving buses, I started repairing some garage doors on the side. After a while, demand picked up for my services. After seeing how many hours I was putting into driving, and for little money, I decided to take the leap and do my business full time! 6 years later, and still going full time!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In my business, and most businesses, being professional at all times, being kind, being service-minded, striving to improve installation skills with each job, and being dependable to show up and show up on time, are key. Customers crave these things from a door tech, and many techs fail in these areas.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I quit my full time bus driving job and decided to start my business full time, the universe played with me for three months. No jobs came my way for almost three months! No matter what ads I put out on NextDoor and Facebook, nobody called me! But every day I would keep putting out ads. I think the universe wanted to see if I really was committed to this. After three months, the flood gates opened and I had 15 calls the next week! Every week since has given me at least 10 new customers! I learned to keep believing in myself and staying gritty.
