We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sam Glover. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sam below.
Alright, Sam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.
If I had a chance to start over there would be a few things I would do different to give me a head starts in to being further along in my success. You cannot cheat the path or journey to success the work has to the done regardless but Preparation is something I did not take as seriously as did in year 3. The next obstacle I would of implement earlier is doing more collaboration, and experience work just to sharp my skills and add more reps to my growth in this industry. The last thing I would tell myself is networking, I have already had a great grasp on this concept, but I never challenged myself to be uncomfortable when it comes to networking. For example, I should of starting to go to events where I do not know anyone that would be in attendance and make an emphasis of connecting on social platforms which each new encounter that I had a chance to form a relationship with. These few steps would easily give me a jumpstart transforming my career early, with less monetary value then the route that I took.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I own and operate a media company that specializes in wardrobe styling, media staffing, photography, and concept creation. The goal of my business is giving others the opportunity to perform or fulfill a need in the entertainment world depending on their personal skill set. The best way to put it is a staffing company for everything entertainment. As of recently my work that I am most proud of is the last major music videos that I have been a part of with Chris Brow, Yung Thig, Gunna, Dirk, Latto, Neyo, Poni, 5am. I would fortunate enough to work on the last YZY campaign for wardrobe, fashion drops, and foam runner campaign. Last the work with my favorite Brand Kulutre Misfit who just had a collaboration with Bleacher report and NBA TNT. These last couple of years have been a busy one but I have loved every part of it and hungry for more.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience is the hardest thing a creative can do, the reason being is because what does your audience want? That tis the first step into building a brand, Identity, or just finding out what you want from yourself. The best way to do this is to analyze the data that you get from your peers. Run poll, ask question, get someone who has never viewed your brand to review your art. All of these will help you pinpoint what you need to do and show your audience going forward. The next step is to engage with your audience. Ask them questions about their media, comment on these posts, do collaborations. This shows that not only are your personable, but you have a vested interest in what they have going on and will strengthen the bond you have with each other.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped me maintain relationships with past clients is my work ethic and personality. When first reading this, you might say well only work ethic can be duplicated but, both can. Personality does defer between person to person, but your morals usually align with certain induvial. In case in point just be the person you would love to work with. Be on time, ask question, treat the client as a person and not another paycheck and these values will go far in building a reputation within your community that will transform into the world.
