We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sam Conturo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft is the most fun part of doing creative work. Just when you think you figured something out another door opens with new possibilities expanding your craft even further.

Sam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a producer and audio engineer originally from Pittsburgh. I later relocated to Fort Lauderdale and work mostly from there. I started off with a passion for a making music while learning the drums. Soon I came across the technology to start creating full productions and that was the coolest thing to me. I could experiment with any idea in my head (some good, many bad along the way). It led to me to want to expand and record full songs with other vocalists, since it was so simple with the technology at hand. Once I picked it up I just never stopped. It’s nice, it keeps you grounded knowing you’re part of an always changing craft. You meet amazing people along the way from many different generations and they pass you wisdom you can only gain from experience. I would say I still have a long way to go but that is the beauty of it.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to share my expression and help others share theirs. I spend most of my time creating with others. Growing a sound from the ground up seeing what we can create.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I already knew about this but I wish I took it more serious. The Library. My mom was a librarian when I was a kid and being from Pittsburgh we have the Carnegie Library which is and amazing resource. We’d spend summers there after the pool mostly playing games on the internet, which even that taught us a lot, although where I am now in life I understand the power of books and being a strong reader. It really takes practice like anything but it’s worth pushing through.
