We were lucky to catch up with Salvador Lozano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Salvador, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?
From an early age of 16 I knew I wanted to have my own business. I remember seeing my father working for someone else and sometimes making comments of the desire of starting his own business but second guessing himself for fear of the unknown and also because he was older. I knew I did not want to grow old and regret not trying. Also I was not afraid of failure. Not long after that my father and I started the first company with only offering custom cabinets made in house. A few years later I incorporated the full service of remodel work, from flooring, cabinets, countertops, showers, plumbing and electrical services to full design work. The first few years were not easy. An unbranded company has many challenges but we kept going and business got better as years went by. Looking back I would do it all over again, with some changes of course! A few years go by and eventually I went on my own with what is now Enchantment Design & Remodeling, LLC
Sadly I lost my father in 2009. His training and guidance will be something that I will always use. Now after 29 years in business we have a solid workforce and quality is our ultimate goal on every job!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
At 16 my father never gave me special preference over other employees. He started me from the bottom. From sanding cabinetry to finishing. Then eventually I was fabricating cabinets on my own. I also was trained in tile install, drywall, framing, estimating and running a crew. All this led to being able to really know the industry. What still sets us apart from most local companies is not only that we do a one stop shop experience but our cabinetry is manufactured still in house. This gives our clients an opportunity to keep their money here locally. I am most proud that this company started as a father and son team and now my son is also involved with the company!
Enchantment Design provides our clients with everything a kitchen and bathroom needs for a feel of a new remodeled space.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The toughest time for our business was 2008 crash. Many businesses closed. The housing market was affected in many ways which led to the demand of our services to be a luxury and not a necessity for homeowners. We were determined to ride the wave, so we scaled down on unnecessary expenses for the business. We looked for the best prices on materials. And we created a cabinet line that was cost effective to be able to present a value to potential clients. We are very thankful that our business survived that and also that we were willing to make adjustments.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Running a business takes a lot of work and dedication. Having a team that shares that same goal is a blessing to any company. When I was diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago and now recently 1 year ago, the work, dedication and team really helped me be able to take care of my health and not lose a beat with our jobs. Needing to pivot in life and business is sometimes necessary.
