We recently connected with SALUSTIANO NO LAST NAME and have shared our conversation below.
SALUSTIANO, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
They gave us unconditional love and trust in us in a way that made us feel self-confident so that we could develop a successful and prosperous careers. I was 5 years old when I made the decision of to be an artist: I had made a drawing and I showed it to my mother. When she saw it she was amazed and surprised, then she went straight to me and hugged me full of emotion. I felt that this embrace somehow invested me with the responsibility of being an artist. It was as if I suddenly had permission to try. I considere that maternal permission is essential to develop all the potential everyone of us is carrying inside. Mi book ALMA MATER (Nurturing Mother, Mother who nurture us) is dedicated to her and, therefore, to all mothers who inspire and encourage all of us in a very loving way to archive and deliver the best of us.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Since I was very young I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to art. I felt that I could communicate with the viewer without using words. Just paintings. This way I could connect with their emotional side in a more direct and effective way.
I started to exhibit my works in the exhibition hall of my high school. Then through alternative spaces in my youth and step by step I entered the world of art galleries, museums and art fairs. Today I can be proud to work and exhibit in countries of several continents.
I think there have been several aspects that have contributed to my professional success. On the one hand, having my own unique and recognizable style of painting has helped me to make my way in this complicated and competitive art world. On the other hand, the respect I feel for the spectator makes me demand the maximum I can give in each of the works I create, without any hint of laziness.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My greatest reward has been seeing how proud my parents and son are of me.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That success does not warm or nourish.
