Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Salomé Robert-Murphy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Salomé, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I honestly don’t remember a time when I wanted to do anything other than perform. I grew up singing and dancing and going to acting classes as my after school extracurriculars. Whenever I would get asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said “I’m going to be an actress,” and I never let external pressure change my answer.
At age 12 is when I realised that any other path was never going to be for me, and I begged my parents to let me transfer to a performing arts school. The feeling that comes with doing what you love is unmatched and I’m so grateful that I was able to discover my passion at such a young age.

Salomé, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am primarily an actress and a model, as well as a singer and dancer. I was raised in London by French parents, but am now based in New York City. I graduated from Tisch School of the Arts, with a BFA in Drama in 2020. Graduating in the middle of covid, I was eager to put my training to use, which led me to create ‘The Self Series.’
‘The Self Series’ is a Youtube platform for young actors to create and work on original content. It enabled my fellow graduates and I to continue our training ourselves, and put out new material to showcase our talents at a time where no opportunities were coming our way.
I also collaborated with my like-minded, eager to create, peers on a few short films, purely out of love for what we do. The most recent of these, including ‘Sell It To Me A Different Way’ and ‘Whale Talk,’ went on to be nominated at numerous film festivals, and even winning a few! I was awarded Best Actress for my work in ‘Sell It To Me A Different Way’ by Metropolis Film Festival, which was an incredible accomplishment for me.
My love for acting has also shifted me into the modelling industry, as commercial work blurs the lines between both categories. I have so much playing other people, but with modelling I get to be myself in front of the camera and showcase my personality.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
This is a really timely question with the writer’s strike and SAG-AFTRA strike currently going on. There’s a massive discrepancy between the ‘A-listers’ and the working actors. Only a small percentage of creatives are being fairly payed for their work, while most don’t even qualify for health insurance. While it’s a privilege to be a part of the entertainment industry and be able to pursue my passion, it’s about time we took a look at what changes the ever evolving technology is causing, and reform. It’s incredible to see these issues come to light as of late, and how society has taken a stand in supporting actors and creatives.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I just want to make people feel. Storytelling is such a powerful tool, it can create a momentary escape for anyone needing to shut off, or it can teach an audience a point of view they may never have considered. As an actor, I hope to help bring writers’ stories to life and create real connections with the viewer- albeit through a screen.
