We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sally Thomas-Chattard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sally below.
Sally, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job
I have worked in customer service for 20 years at Wayne County Community College. Working at WCCCD we often had extensive customer service training. I learned at an early age that customer service is the key to any successful business. Working for the community college, students come from all walks of life. I learned to treat all people with dignity and respect.

Sally, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Runway Slay is a photo booth company. We offer 360 video booths, mirror booths and custom enclosures. We offer upscale equipment and high energy customer service at very competitive prices. We engage with our patrons and their guest. We dance with them, we make them laugh to ensure they have a positive experience. We are most proud of our professionalism, timeliness and our desire to create unforgettable memories. We have been told by countless clients how well we connect with their guest and take their events to higher levels.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I’ve paid for marketing from Google, Yelp and Social Media platforms but I’ve found word of mouth to be the most effective strategy for growing my business. People want to be in business with companies whom others have had very positive experiences with. At the conclusion of each event we ask our clients “Have we met or exceeded their expectations?”. We work very hard to ensure that the answer is always “yes”.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Harvard Business Review: “Manage People Not Personnel “ by Victor H. VRoom
This book teaches critical thinking, employee relations, the power of managers and management by objectives. What I personally learned from the reading is that in order to get the best from people you have to give your best to people.
