Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Salena Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Salena thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I started Partial to Girls on a piece of scrap paper. I had no money and no one to support my plan at the time. The plan was to build a nonprofit from nothing to help families in poverty., to help women and children in emergencies. During the pandemic I served thousands of babies formula and diapers. I started many other helpful programs within this Organization to assist families in need. A Birthday program for boys and girls called Forget him not and forget her not. a hair program focused on interracial children called Special Occasion Hair Program, A Reading Program called Black Exposure Reading Program and. Teenage Girl Program called The Transparency Project. None of these programs would have existed if I would have given up on this work and on myself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started Partial to Girls to help families struggling through poverty. I was a drop out of high school teen mother who struggled with poverty all my life. I wanted to take my lives experience and find a way to give back to those who needed it the most. All the programs I run come from my life’s experience. I bring in what I know I needed as a child and what I needed as a struggling adult.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my social media by being my true authentic self. I found that most people on social media are looking for transparency. I find that a lot of people are self doubting due to looks and overthinking. For instance, I have bad teeth. I spent a lot of time doubting myself because of my looks. We often forget our product which is really ourselves. We’re the product. I had to find a way to market myself on social media by finding the courage to live in the moment and not be fearful of who you really are. Believe in yourself or your business/organization isn’t going anywhere.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Managing a team is like managing family and finances all in one. High morale is personal and individual. You have to be a good person. Your intentions have to be seen and believed. Being truthful, honest and open about what you’re doing is the only way to build a string team. Treating people well and with respect.
