We recently connected with Saleena Bullard and have shared our conversation below.
Saleena , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Sisters N-Courage Network holds a special place in my heart. It’s not just a women’s empowerment organization; it’s a reflection of my own journey. Dealing with depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and suicidal attempts, I found solace and strength within this community. Unlike other programs fixated on external achievements, Sisters N-Courage Network cultivates a global community and dives deep into shared experiences, and internal growth. It’s a safe haven where societal norms are challenged, and ambitious women can explore and be empowered without judgment.

Saleena , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey began with depression and anxiety.
My journey began with suicidal thoughts and attempts.
My journey began with the challenge of handling multiple life transitions simultaneously.
My journey began with questioning my faith.
My journey began with the struggle of self-identification (who is Saleena?).
Through my journey, I discovered the importance of creating a community for others who have had similar experiences. I wanted to serve and show that I understand, hear, and see them. Together, we can figure things out and support one another. Helping others on their journey has also been instrumental in my own healing process. I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything; it has been my greatest lesson and a true blessing.
The thing is, if a broken crayon can still color, then why would I believe it is impossible for God to use me?
One of my proudest moments is when the women in my community celebrate their victories, no matter how big or small. It fills me with joy and serves as a reminder during life’s challenging moments.
I want potential clients and followers to understand that empowerment is multidimensional. It encompasses emotional, mental, spiritual, social, physical, financial, and educational aspects, which are all essential for complete well-being and personal growth. By being in my presence, I will help you break free from the limitations society has placed upon us.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the time of the pandemic, I worked as an Assistant Teacher for children with special needs and behavioral challenges. When we went remote it allowed me the opportunity to network and connect with other professionals and potential clients. During that time, I was a not a coach but people automatically assumed that I was. So, I decided to get my life coaching certification. I thought things had to change once I got my certification. I started connecting with individuals who did not really have my best interest at heart. They used my vulnerability as me being weak and they would copy the things I did. For a little while it had me not trust anyone. But fast forward, I connected with someone and they mentioned to me, that I have the foundation and the tools to help strengthen it. I just had to remove the unnecessary puzzle pieces that caused chaos in my business. So, my biggest takeaway is, align yourself with those who truly want to see you win. Do not allow one bad situation to block the greatness that is awaiting you. Trust yourself and your abilities. When connecting with people, pray for the spirit of discernment, vet them and keep God first in all that you do. Lastly, be okay with saying hell no (or a simple no,lol), especially if it is not aligned with what God has for you.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
In both personal and professional realms, I’ve learned that growth isn’t a straightforward climb. Initially, I held a fixed mindset, believing abilities were either innate or absent. Failures felt like permanent setbacks. However, I’ve unlearned this notion. True growth involves effort, learning, and resilience. It’s about embracing a growth mindset, seeing setbacks as stepping stones toward improvement.
Similarly, healing isn’t linear. Whether emotionally or professionally, progress isn’t always upward. It can hard AF sometimes. There are plateaus, detours, and moments when we take a step back. In both contexts, compassion toward ourselves during setbacks fuels sustainable development. So, let’s dance through the twists and turns, knowing that progress isn’t a straight line—it’s a journey of growth.
