Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sakura Yoshino. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sakura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think “happiness” is the key to being successful. Whether or not I accomplish my career goal in 60 years from now, I want to be the kind of person who can look back at my own path and say “I lived a magnificent life.” From my experience, I noticed that good fortune would follow when I have positive energy. I choose my words carefully, even when I am going through challenging times, because my brain is listening. I believe the world could be created by the words that accidentally slip out of my mouth. We need to be careful about what we say to ourselves. I believe if we stay mentally and physically healthy, the roadway to success will eventually open up for us.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m from Japan, living in the U.S. for about 6 years.
I work as an associate channel manager / video editor at Glocal Media, I manage two of our Japanese channels at the company and make promotional videos when necessary.
We are the only company that offers Japanese programs on cable and satellite TV in the U.S. and Canada and our target audience includes both Japanese and people who are interested in Japanese culture and language. We also offer a streaming channel that only has Japanese content with English subtitles. My goal is to help Japanese people feel at home, and spread Japanese content to the world.
Names of the Japanese channels are NIPPON TV Channel (cable and satellite TV) and DOKI TV (streaming). Please check out our channels and learn more about us!
Glocal Media also offers a variety of international television programming, such as Chinese, Filipino, British, etc… Check out our website for more info!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My adult life just started, so I can only say what I’ve learned so far. Throughout the journey, I discovered that life is like a swing; when a positive experience happens, a negative experience will happen. I have noticed whenever I go through challenging times, there are always greater outcomes waiting for me after passing through these challenges. For instance, I had a hard time learning English during my college years, it was difficult to have casual conversations with others, professors told me that I needed to improve my English, and it took longer to finish homework, etc… I wished I had started learning English from an earlier age, but because I went through struggles, I learned that what I thought “impossible to achieve” wasn’t impossible at all. Another challenge I faced was getting scammed by two immigration attorneys. I experienced great fear of losing my career and all of I had worked for. However, I’ve learned how to stay calm and think smart. I’ve gained confidence, EQ, and fortitude from going through these challenging moments. Life is like a swing, there is a constant up and down, but don’t you agree that “swings” are the number one playground equipment that many of us love to play with? If we have to face challenges, might as well, we should enjoy those times. You only live once… Hard work and dedication allowed me to be resilient.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I truly enjoy entertaining people. One of my mentors once told me that people go to movie theaters to forget their reality; when the movie is running, the audience will enjoy the story, get charged, and go back to their own lives when the movie is over. I believe entertainers are similar to healers, I would love to keep working as an entertainer and keep giving people euphoric moments. On weekends, I make videos with my friends, we make a variety of genres, starting from comedy, suspense, horror, and romance..etc One of my goals is to help make people’s lives a bit brighter and happier from our videos. What I enjoy about working at Glocal Media is that I get to exchange my culture with the world, I can also give comfort to our Japanese viewers who are living abroad by offering our channel. My mission is to keep learning about entertainment industries both in the U.S. and Japan, keep observing my boss and my manager as much as I can to become a better version of myself, and keep finding ways of entertaining people.
I truly believe our life is full of excitement, I want more people to know that and live their own life more sparkling.
