We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Saki Savavi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Saki, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am! It allows me to live from a place of inspired insight rather than a space of pre-determined expectation. Of course I wonder! There’s a lot solidity in working a “regular job” and the path of a Creative Professional is constantly shifting and requires unwavering belief in your own vision, especially when physical evidence isn’t there. And while having a “regular job” comes with particular securities, they aren’t worth exchanging the time I require to create and expand.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name’s Saki Savavi, I’m a Multidisciplinary Artist and Healing Arts Practitioner. I’ve always had Sensory Processing Sensitivity and have studied Film + Visual arts since early childhood. I am the first Federally Registered Arts2Work Apprentice in the nation where I fell in love with the mission of providing additional pathways into the creative industry! I continue to work here. During this year-long apprenticeship I worked full-time while learning the in’s and out’s of taking film projects from Pre – Post production! This opportunity really shaped my professional scope in the Creative Industry and inspired my love for Mentorship.
As a practitioner of the Healing Arts, I provide services encompassing Astrology + Energy Work/ENLP ( Energetic Neurolinguistic Programming). I help folks clear the noise in their bio-energetic field, work with the current themes of their lives, and even assist in travel. I enjoy making this work accessible with my social media platforms that are both educational and visually appealing, as I’m exploring esoteric topics while Solo Camping the Sonoran Desert (Southern Arizona).
At this time, I’d say I’m most proud of my core values: Right-Relationship, Curiosity, and Authenticity. They keep me grounded and ensure that I’m considering the impact of any projects, connections, and communities I’m in contact with. Whether it’s contacting a potential guest for Arts2Work Conversations (a monthly live event where we chat with professionals in the Creative Industry), or helping clients create an action plan to transform the challenges in their lives, I love leading with curiosity to form an individualized approach.
I’m also really proud of my commitment to repairing + evolving my worldview. I take the time to really investigate my beliefs and assumptions, understanding that the history and socialization we were given (in Western Society), hasn’t historically been based in empowerment. It’s been rooted in feeding a system that benefits from our ignorance. These commitments to expanding my outlook has truly multiplied my sense of community. I’ve met people and serve from all walks of life and it’s in the knowing of their stories + being of service that I’m able to be transformed!
These connections + values inspired my upcoming Docuseries, Leylines, where we explore essential worldviews within the African Diaspora in an effort to amplify our understanding of each other. They also inspired another project, Suliphat (2022), a series of digital oracle cards to help soothe the human condition.
If you’re new to my work, essentially, I want you know that, whether it’s in the Creative Industry or the Healing Arts, my core intention is to help repair our place in our Global ecology as Earth Stewards. To tell stories that heal our worldview and repair our connection with the natural kingdoms. All while enjoying ourselves of course! Remember, we are always growing never grown!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Understand and support the roles that Artists play in society! Artists are often Highly Sensitive and Psychic Intuitive people, we largely operate on a wavelength that allows us to problem solve the facets of our society that many overlook. Our role is one of scribe and translator and I’d love to see these roles supported and mentored more by society. Artists and innovators really push civilization forward and I think our society could be healthier if we protected + nourished that more.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Love this question! I must say it’s knowing that I’ll be proud of my creations for decades to come and that they’ll be reference points for things my grand children and their grand children may be going through. For me, creation is the foundation of generational legacy. Honestly, if my grand kids think I’m cool and honor my life’s work, then Mission Complete!
