Sakeisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
Dr. Sakeisha’s Journey: Overcoming Obstacles and Helping Marriages Win
Dr. Sakeisha has defied the odds, both in her personal life and her professional journey. Raised in a single-parent household, she and her husband made a firm commitment early in their marriage that divorce was not an option for them. Their shared passion and determination led them to create the ‘Vows to Victory’ virtual summit, a platform where bold couples could openly share their truths and triumphs, fostering transparency and growth.
Eric and Sakeisha were determined to break the cycle of failed marriages that plagued their parents. Their unwavering desire for their own marriage to succeed fueled a journey of more than 20 years, during which they prioritized transparency and openness to help other couples achieve marital success. Their approach to love and marriage left no topic untouched, embracing a “no holds barred” attitude.
Throughout their journey, they encountered numerous ups and downs. One day, while experiencing one of the most traumatic events in her pharmacy career, Dr. Sakeisha received another blow – her husband’s unexpected termination from a major company in Miami. Amidst this challenging period, they also took on additional responsibilities, such as serving as an associate pastor, leading a marriage ministry, and supporting their children who were dealing with severe bullying. Eventually, they had to let go of their dream home and adapt to a new normal in a smaller townhome.
After dedicating almost two decades to the healthcare industry, Dr. Sakeisha saw a new opportunity in a mentorship program to advance her pharmacy career. Unfortunately, health issues arose, preventing her from returning to her passion for helping others as a pharmacist. Despite this devastating blow, she chose to focus on the opportunities that lay ahead. Driven by her passion to educate, empower, and encourage couples to embrace the idea that Marriage Can Win, she and her husband started hosting weekly live interviews on Facebook, tackling common challenges in marriages – communication, finances, and intimacy.
The couple also launched a radio show titled “Marriage Can Win” and organized their first online Virtual Summit, “From the Vow to Victory Summit,” which attracted over 650 motivated couples. As they felt everything was back on track, life took an unexpected turn. Dr. Sakeisha fell seriously ill during the final day of the summit and was hospitalized. However, her determination did not waver. She recovered and continued her mission of helping couples succeed in their marriages.
Despite overcoming many obstacles, Dr. Sakeisha and her family were hit by COVID-19 after being encouraged by a nurse to return to the hospital. Even this setback didn’t deter her. Together with her husband, who she has been married to for over 22 years, they authored their fourth book, “Struggling to Keep the Vows,” a testament to their commitment to supporting married couples.
Along her journey, Dr. Sakeisha learned valuable lessons that she now shares with others:
Change Your Perspective: Shift your view of challenging situations. Trust that you are where you are meant to be, even if it deviates from your plans.
Leverage Setbacks: Reframe negative experiences as opportunities for growth and learning that prepare you for the future.
Listen to the Voice of God: Reflect on each situation and consider what changes you could make for the future.
Seek Opportunities for Growth: Use difficult experiences to grow and develop into a better version of yourself.
Know When to Pivot: Embrace change and seek new opportunities, even if they lead you in unexpected directions.
Dr. Sakeisha believes in the words of Marilyn Monroe: “Sometimes good things fall apart so that greater things can come together.” Her journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the unwavering belief that marriages can indeed thrive and win, no matter the challenges faced.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

How Did We Get Here?
After going through several ups and downs, Dr. Sakeisha and her husband were faced with another setback. On the same day she was experienced one of the most traumatic series of events in her pharmacy career, she received a phone call from her husband informing her that his contract with a major company in Miami, Florida had been unexpectedly terminated; consequently a difficult 8 months concomitantly serving as an associate pastor, spear heading a marriage ministry and raising two children who had both been struggling due to severe bullying ensued. As a result, she and her husband were forced to sell their “dream home” and rent a townhome nearby where they regrouped. Although the living quarters were “tight” they settled into their “new normal”
After 19 plus years in the Healthcare industry, Dr. Sakeisha was excited to see a new pathway open for her in terms of being accepted into a mentorship group that was designed to help take her pharmacy career to the next level; however , an unexpected breathing issue eventually prohibited me from returning to my passion which was helping others in the community as a pharmacist. This was the most devastating blow of all. What was supposed to be a brief time out from work, turned into a 4 year plus battle with my health. I was informed that could not return to my position as a pharmacist and was devastated.
Instead of focusing on the obstacles I decided to focus on the opportunities. I decided to pursue full time my ultimate passion to educate, empower and encourage couples to embrace that Marriage Can Win! Together, along with my husband host weekly live interviews on Facebook to tackle what I refer to as “The Great Divide” in Marriages: challenges in communication, finances, and sex. I also launched a radio show called” Marriage Can Win” and hosted my first online Virtual Summit entitled “From the Vow to Victory Summit “that 650 motivated couples registered to participate. Finally, everything seemed to be back on track when “life happened again”; During the final day of the summit, I began to experience difficulty breathing, fevers, cough, fatigue, etc. and was forced to watch the rest of the summit from a hospital bed! However, that did not deter me. I rested and was ready to get back to helping couples WIN in their marriage. Four days later, everything came to a screeching halt after a conversation with a powerful intercessor, a nurse who was a nurse who encouraged me and my entire family to return to the emergency room where me, my husband and daughter all tested positive for COVID-19! Although a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 knocked me down temporarily, it could not keep me down. Shortly afterwards my husband and I launched an all-out crusade to help married couples, we released our 4th book, Struggling to Keep the Vows and since then have released our fifth book, an anthology with other married couples entitled Money Talks Volume 2.
One thing overcoming these obstacles has taught me is that when life doesn’t always go as you planned, you have one of two options: 1) You can either make a choice to stay where you are or 2) Take a chance and get up, dust yourself off and try again. We decided to get up, dust ourselves off and try again.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Amidst the challenging backdrop of the pandemic, I found myself driven to embrace the art of the pivot. Like countless others, I confronted the need to hit the refresh button across various facets of life – from my business to my ministries, relationships, and beyond. This period brought forth a diverse set of challenges, spanning from job losses to the heartrending departure of loved ones, and the far-reaching financial implications that touched both my family and my business. The pandemic became an illuminating lesson in adaptation, urging me to navigate uncharted waters.
I’ve always held a strong affinity for personal connections, which made the necessity to pivot to a 100% virtual environment a particularly formidable challenge for me. My relative lack of technological savvy only compounded this hurdle, though I was fortunate to have the support of my husband and business partner, who excelled in this realm.
In times of upheaval – such as the one that has united us in collective navigation – the imperative of seeking new, potentially profitable pathways takes on a new significance. I’ve discovered that even when the course seems counterintuitive or strays drastically from my initial plans, these moments house the potential for unforeseen growth and prosperity.
Marilyn Monroe’s poignant words reverberate deeply within me during this season of transformation: “Sometimes good things fall apart so greater things can come together.” This quote has evolved into a beacon of guidance, a reminder that the act of pivoting, although often daunting, can unveil remarkable new prospects.
Throughout this journey, I’ve cultivated an embrace of change, ventured beyond the comfortable bounds of my known world, and maintained a receptivity to the unexpected. Pivoting has empowered me to venture into unexplored territories, harness my creativity to unveil fresh horizons, and persistently remind me of the enduring power of resilience and growth, even in the most challenging of times.
As I continue to pivot and evolve, I’m profoundly appreciative of the lessons gleaned from these transformative times. They’ve illuminated the potential that lies within the right mindset, the courage to pivot, and the willingness to explore new directions. Amid the pandemic, we accomplished remarkable feats, launching not just one, but two radio shows – The Marriage Can Win Show and Date Night with the Hylicks. We initiated our Marriage Can Podcast, published two books, orchestrated the Becoming A Millionaire Power Couple Summit for Leaders, and even embarked on the inaugural season of The Becoming a Millionaire Power Couple TV Show. These milestones were only possible because we chose to pivot, embracing discomfort and stepping beyond our accustomed boundaries.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn in our business that the roles and responsibilities we had in our personal life may not mimic the roles and responsibilities in our business. We had to Clearly outline each person’s roles and responsibilities in both the marriage and the business to prevent confusion, ensure accountability, and minimize overlap or conflicts.. The journey of balancing marriage and business is continuous. By clearly defining each persons goals and expectations, maintaining effective communication, and prioritizing each other’s well-being, we created a harmonious and fulfilling life that thrives on both personal and professional success.
