We recently connected with Saisha Monét and have shared our conversation below.
Saisha, appreciate you joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
People misconstrued being a full time creative sometimes as “not having a real job” and though it used to be offensive, I learned that who cares what people think especially people who hate you because you took a of faith!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I like to consider myself a Serial creative. God has blessed me with a lot of different talents but they all tie into each other in such a beautiful way. Dance came into my life first at the very fresh age of 2 years old where I trained in Tap and Jazz. Later on I discovered and fell in love with hiphop which I then became known for. Years later, fitness was introduced to me when I wanted to audition to be a Pelicans Dancer but did not make the cut. After not making it, I started training hard to prepare for the next audition but later decided that I didn’t want to do it anymore but kept pursuing dance and fitness together! I fell in love with how fitness affected my dance career by helping me to remain healthy, have great stamina and help my overall performances.
I then discovered videography (Saisha Monét Studios) when I wasn’t working and wanted to post content of my choreography. I had a friend at the time who was a videographer and I was so intrigued with how he took the simplest content and created a movie out of it. It was then that I realized I could do that too! I then started my own youtube channel (Saisha Monét TV) and podcast “Doses of Jesus” and the rest is continuing to unfold day by day in the most exciting and beautiful way!
I am most proud of how God took my pain and turned it into purpose. The pain of rejection growing up not making certain opportunities that I thought I deserved all made me hungrier for where I am today and I am so grateful that God did not allow me to give up!
The main things I want people to know about me is that I am super passionate about what I do. I put God/Jesus Christ first in all of it and I aim to exceed my client’s expectations every single time!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
At first in my creative journey, greatness was the #1 goal and it kept me up at night thinking about it. But now, I have and almost 2 year old beautiful babygirl who looks at me like I’m the best thing walking this earth and THAT is what keeps me going. Knowing that I am building an empire for her and generations to come to be able to benefit from is what keeps me going even when I don’t always see the end of the road fully I know that God will always work it all together for my good!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn expecting support from those closest to you. I have had more strangers than family support me and it’s because sometimes when people are too close they can’t really see who’s in front of them, but strangers see you and sometimes will go out of their way to root for you and support you. I am blessed to have friends who always mention my name in rooms that they know can benefit me and vice versa! It’s important to also clap for yourself and not wait for others to clap for you. You have to keep pushijg whether you have 3 people buying or the whole world because blessing those 3 with your God-given talents/gifts could change the world!
