We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Saika Delic. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Saika below.
Alright, Saika thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Yes and no. As an independent music artist, you learn a lot of skills in order to accomplish your goals. Not only are you an artist but you find yourself becoming a photographer, videographer, editor, content creator, etc. It was with these skills that I was able to work full-time as a content creator for various companies and brands. However, I’m still working toward being able to live from my work solely as a music artist.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I come from a fairly musical family so it was only natural that I got the music bug too. My father raps and makes music so being that it was in my DNA, from the tender age of about 2 and a half, I started pretending that I was on world tours. Somewhere along the line, I decided that making music was something I would take seriously.
In 2017, I was fortunate to work with the likes of Jadakiss, Styles P, Cassidy and Paul Wall amongst others and now, with management, I’m continuing to release music and book shows.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Aside from my music career, financial literacy, food health and access to STEM programs (amongst others) are very important to me. Alongside music, I would like to create a non-profit organization that provides access to fresh fruits and vegetables to low-income areas and educates on food health, provides access to STEM programs, and programs to teach financial literacy to all ages. I would also like to create a music festival in which a portion of the proceeds goes toward the non-profit.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to see something that you have worked on come to life. Something that once only resided in your mind is now a tangible object or thing that can be viewed or listened to. Someone else can now experience what was once only inside your mind.
