We recently connected with Saige Caraway and have shared our conversation below.
Saige , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
While a film scene does exist here, right now Dallas is still mostly a hub for commercial and news style production. I feel it’s just not as big of a city for film or entertainment production as it could and should be. Because of this, the first series of original scripts that I’m writing are in set in Dallas.
Is it presumptuous to the think that my work could have an affect on Dallas’ film status? Maybe, but big or small, I want to do my part in any way that I can to support the Dallas film agenda.
That’s what I want my legacy to be.

Saige , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It took me many steps and moments of discoveries to get to this version of me.
Saige the writer was born somewhere in the middle school years when I was looking for a book to read but couldn’t find one to satisfy the particular taste I had in mind.
By random chance I came across a quote that said, “If you can’t find the book you want to read it just means you haven’t written it yet.”
At first I thought it was crazy-the idea that I could just write a story but then an again id recently discovered the world of Percy Jackson Fanfiction. I figured if they could do it, why couldn’t I? I started writing after that and haven’t stopped since.
My next discovery was Saige the Actor.
As a kid I was always described as a natural performer but it wasn’t until high school when I started to get involved with theater for real that I understood what that meant. Up on stage something clicked into place- something that I didn’t know I was missing but instantly felt the difference it made in me. I always say, I never feel more like myself than on stage playing someone else.
Acting and writing thus became my interest and passion but it didn’t transform to a an actual career goal until college.
I didn’t start my collegiate career knowing what I wanted to major in, but my natural interests emerged as my chosen electives pushed me into production. Once production came into play Director was the natural evolution to the inevitable conclusion of Saige the Filmmaker.
I’ve been lucky enough on these early stages of my joinery to already connect with people working in various stages of the industry as well. I’ve learned a lot on film sets with the underground film scene here in the city and within my apprenticeship with the Pegasus Media Apprenticeship Program.
Business wise, for the time being I’ve dubbed myself a Weekend Filmmaker. At my current stage in the game I am not yet able to work full time industry but between day job and my apprenticeship I freelance whenever I can. I’m actually in a transitional phase right now. My partner, Business Coach, and I have been working on crafting out a new business plan for a production company.
Creative wise, I’ve recently had the opportunity to edit some promo videos for Pegasus Contemporary Ballet and their upcoming show: Synergy (No relation to Pegasus Media Apprenticeship). Me and the members of my cohort all had 3 short films premier at the Pegasus Film Festival, where I had the opportunity to act in a live scene shoot as part of a Cinematic Technique Demo given by Director Norry Niven.
Currently I’m working on getting a project funded. There’s not too much I can say about it now but when proper funding is procured the casting call will go up!
Something I want people to know about me as a filmmaker is that I strive to entertain. Nothings better to me than a show that’s so entertaining that it momentarily takes you out of real world. I live that experience and I want to be the reason someone else feels it.
I’m most proud of the determination I’ve built. It’s not an easy feat to chase a future in film and entertainment and despite the anxieties, fear, stress and everything else that comes with it, I decided to chase it.
Im especially proud of the determination I put forth with getting a degree. It was always my plan to graduate from college and while that plan wasn’t easy I stuck to my guns and did what I set out to do,
If that’s not the proof anyone needs to know that I’m making good on my filmmaking promise then I don’t know what is.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I strive to create how I vision it not how I think or more specifically how others think it should be. If we do that it creates the space of diverse voices to tell the stories and make the projects that they want but don’t because it didn’t fit the original narrative of what’s expected.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I was a first time college student for my family so I had to learn a lot of college hacks on my own. In my opinion there were definitely ways that I could have gotten the maximum amount out of college experience than I did had I know some do the things that I know now. There are certain programs, internships, and other opportunities that could have jump started my career but instead passed me by because I wasn’t aware of them.
