Safia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am extremely fortunate and blessed to be in the profession that I am. To answer the question what would it be like to have a regular job. I’ve held several regular jobs in the past that were also fulfilling. After I had kids, I felt I needed to devote a little bit of time to them as well as being able to supplement my family‘s income. Education is something I’ve always had a passion for. I used to teach kids when I was in college and much later in the capacity as a teacher. I felt continuing my passion was more important to me than any other profession that I have previously been in.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I currently own a Learning franchise called the Eye Level Learning Center for Math and English located in Missouri City/ SugarLand. We offer tutoring services from kids aged 3 all the way up to high school. Our Math program covers Basic Thinking Math and Critical thinking Math. Our English program covers both Reading (Grammar /ELA) and Writing ( teaching the basics of essay writing ) Our curriculum is aligned to common core which is a Curriculum followed in all of the US. Parents looking to supplement their children’s education contact us on our website www..myeyelevel.com. We have centers all over Houston, TX and the US
We offer free diagnostic testing and give parents information they need and a guided assessment to start the program.
My daughter used to attend another franchise. One of the owners always encouraged me to apply for ownership. She trusted me even when I wasn’t sure that I was able to do it. Her confidence was what gave me the boost to open my own business.Once I did. I really enjoyed my job -setting my own hours, getting to hire my staff and most importantly tutoring kids has always provided me with a lot of satisfaction and comfort. When I see kids that I have tutored in the past
today have become successful entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, it fills me with great satisfaction. To me my clients’ satisfaction , really listening to them and following through takes top priority
I used to be a parent / client before I became a own business owner. As a client, the things that I would expect from a business owner is some thing I strive to offer to my clients.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
. When I started my business several years ago, I was not aware of social media or the impact that it could potentially have in increasing my clientele. . Having realized that a lot of my clients are millennials who have moved away from Facebook and are more on Instagram and TikTok was somewhat of a revelation. I taught myself how to be active on Instagram and TikTok. I am still learning to promote my business through these two social media accounts. I also have to credit the growth of my business to positive word of mouth. My initial goal was not to get more students but to retain the students that I had. I did spend a lot of time on my existing students. Once they begin to excel in their academics, they referred me to their friends and family and initially I grew organically without putting in a lot of money in ads. I would say a healthy combination of word of mouth and advertising has helped my business grow steadily over the years.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Starting a business from scratch can be a pretty daunting task. It helps when you do have a little bit of financial funding and you can afford to pay your rent for six months without having to rely on the business. Once the business grows your hard work pays off. Hiring the right staff, investing time and effort in the materials and continuing to evolve both academically and business wise helps sustain our business model
