We caught up with the brilliant and insightful SADBOYMUSIC a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
SADBOYMUSIC, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk ever took was believing in myself as an Artist, Creative Directer, Producer, Investor and Engineer. When it came to curating my sound and image I really bet on myself. Being as pure and honest to the creative process, nothing has been forced everything has felt organic. So when you see the SADBOY brand anywhere else you think of me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My is SADBOYMUSIC.. aka Antoine, A genre bending artist from Long Island, Roosevelt, NY. Creating has been something I’ve always done before I was able to fully walk or speak. I came from two parents that were apart of the industry who decided to bow out once life started to a different path. The music industry is hard to crack especially in an over saturated market. For me, I didn’t wanna play it safe and just do pop or R&B. I did what I love, I created this world of Electronic infused art that we normally don’t see black people in. Im most proud that I’ve been able to be the main producer behind the art and its not question that its me because you can see it in my evolution. I want black men like me to know that it’s okay to experience emotions, it could be joy, peace, jealousy, anger, sadness and many other things. We should be allowed to explore whom we are. My album “planete des larmes” showed those emotions from track 1 – 12.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to tell a story thats cohesive and not only show that in the lyrics but the soundscape. It’s a feeling that almost close to being a score in movie or video game. Settling the stage so in the listeners headphones they feel as if they’ve entered a world of mine like non other. The cherry on top for me was being able to work with friends of mine like Kako Da Kaveman, Wuhryn Dumas, Stevie Derrick, Dawn Richard, AlanMichael and YanwyBlew. They really gave their own interpretation of what my world felt like, it just collided so perfectly.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be the first black male pop star from Long Island. We’ve seen with Mariah Carey, Ashanti, the many actors and hip hop legends. But we’ve never seen it in the form of a black male. I also would love to create a creative haven for children of black and brown in Long Island to learn how to sing, rap, produce, write, engineer, act, dance and more. Long Island has a lot of talent that gets over looked.
