We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sacred A. McEwen (Sacred Fantasy) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sacred, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am happy as a creative. Creativity is self-expression and soul. It’s truth is raw form. Without art the world would lack essence! It would be dull and unexciting!
So no, I do not think about having a “regular” job. I choose to only do what I love and when I become overwhelmed with being in the public eye as an artist, I retreat more into my day spa, Divinity Massage & Oasis Spa. Here I can take a much needed break from the constant act of performing and curating events! I simple just allow myself to be while I’m servicing my day spa clients. I am still able to share my creations with them, but in a smaller more individualized setting! Everything I do tends to be poetic in some form.
With that being said, I use my art to pour my peace, pain and purpose onto the canvas of life. This can be massively draining as my writing are mostly heartbreak and love based pieces. I recently questioned if it’s written in the stars for me to endure heartaches so I can be compelled to bleed my pen with the same intensity that the sun resonates its light. So vastly bright that the remanence of its glow can still be seen millions of light years away!
My conclusion is that as a creative I must find balance in being a superstar and being Sacred A. McEwen! I must remember that home has importance and value. That falling in love with myself is even more important than loving my art! I must walk with my art, but always stay true to myself!

Sacred, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sacred! The name was bestowed upon me during Tropical Storm Harvey in Houston, Texas! I remember sitting in one of my friend’s backyards. To be more specific, I was sitting at her high-top bar. It had been raining for days, seemingly non-stop (some days it didn’t.) I’d never experienced such an occurrence. It was perplexing and beautiful. Dangerous and safe. The perfect oxymoron! As each drop added to the flooded streets, I remember thinking about my entire life and all of the things that were important to me. I also vividly recall the calm and panic I was simultaneously experiencing. I promised myself that if I survived the storm, I would pursue my career as a poet.
I thought about my current pen name at the time. It was Pink Iris. When I first came up with the name, it was simply because my favorite flower is an iris and my favorite color is pink. Magenta, if you want to be specific. I also determined that pink iris was too similar to pink eye. After giggling, which seemed to be the first time since the storm had started, I decided it was time to change my pen name. The next name that came to me was Wyrd Playe! Why? Because writing words on paper feels like being on a playground tailored specifically to my thought provoking mind!
Once again, the next day, I was sitting outside in my friend’s backyard, at her high-top bar, repeating, “Wyrd Playe,” over and over again. It didn’t feel like love or ease. It wasn’t right for me. So I tapped in. I wanted my name to be given to me by The Most High. So, I softly allowed the question, “who am I,” to flow into the breeze. Immediately after having this thought, asking this question, I heard the word sacred, and I knew that was a title. It was my given name. Sacred Enigma became my next alias. Just as I did before! I found myself repeating name, Sacred Enigma, several times. Yet, I still wasn’t resonating with it! So, I thought deeper about who I was and what made me unique from anyone else. I came to the conclusion that it was my mind. The way I string words together like a seamstress crafting couture garments for eclectic beings. Or a weaver creating handmade baskets from hand-picked, grown and harvested materials. My creativity is sacred. It’s also my fantasy. A world where I can go and build whatever realm I choose! And just like that, I became Sacred Fantasy.
I create safe spaces for artist and art lovers to come together and enjoy elevated events tailored to unifying us all in community. Bringing local vendors in front of a new or returning audience. My goal is always to help others meet or exceed their own goals. I desire deeply to see others thrive around me as I thrive around them. I solve the need of needing to search for an art driven community. I built it and present in front of others. I encourage all readers to join my mission today by subscribing to my newsletter at thesacredfantasy.com. I’ll keep you up-to-date about all upcoming events and the release dates of my future projects!
Just a little backstory, the industry chose me. Poetry chose me. I choose me. I choose poetry. I choose to give the industry healing through my art. I choose conscious writing. I choose passion in purpose. I choose to bleed my pen in truth and transparency. Allowing my readers into the deepest parts of my somber mind.
As a creative I offer many services and products! I make custom crochet clothing designs and accessories under my business EdylonWL. Through Sacred Fantasy LLC, I have poetry books (Blessings in Disguise and All The Things I Didn’t Want to Write About), framed and signed poem, music streaming on all major platforms, natural skin care products (also sold on divinityoasis.com), website design and marketing products, book publishing and much more. Under Divinity Massage & Oasis Spa I offer poetic, holistic healing services such as massage, facials, skincare, Qigong, retreats and spiritual guidance, sound healing and more. I only do what I love!
I am most proud of being able to create spaces for others to be seen, heard and felt. In these spaces I also am able to display my craft to different audiences! Performing my art heals me from within!
To my potential clients, fans and followers, I want you to know that you matter. Your existance is powerful and you alone are capable of transforming the world! I wish you joy and peace, love and happiness! My music is a reflection of who I am and what I have navigated through! It spreads joy and excitement! What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Here are a few ways society can better support artists and creatives to help create a thriving creative eco system!
1) Share our content on social media when we post. Sharing our content to others helps to expand our visibility! The more we are seen, the better chance we have to gain a new supporter!
2) Engage with our post and blogs. Going to my website and reading my blogs helps them to rank higher in search engines. This also helps to increase my visibility. By leaving likes and comments on artists posts it tells the algorithm that there is value within it. This will also help boost our numbers.
3) Showing up to local shows when artists have events. Support goes a long way! Come with a group of friends to sweeten the pot!
4) Purchasing merchandise from artist. Buying our merch helps us to fund our careers. Each purchase is an investment we can use to help buy essential equipment or use to advertise our brands!
5) Streaming the music of musical artists. To go a step further, you can add songs that you like to your playlist. This will help platforms recommend artist to listeners with similar musical taste as yours! When you’re finished reading my interview go stream my music/poetry and add me to your favorite playlists. Thanks in advance!
6) If you really love an artist, and want to see them succeed you can be a part of that journey by sharing their platforms with as many people as possible. Simply by pulling out your phone to show others how to follow the creative the you enjoy.
7) Collaborating with local artist. If you own a business, it could increase visibility and sales for both parties by creating a campaign that focuses on highlighting a fusion of each others goods and services! Sharing across multiple platforms helps to drive more viewers to the brand. If you’re interested in collaborating with me, feel free to reach out! I love building new business connections.
8) Booking artists, such as myself, for appearences and performances helps tremendously to elevate our careers! We do what we love! Book me for a poetry show, musical performance, to host a poetry & paint event, hosting and even private events like wedding and birthday parties! This will help me to continue to live as an active creator! We need you all to be successful!
9) Donations to artists help us just as much as merch purchases do! If you feel inclined to bless an artist with a random act of kindness, don’t hesitate to do so. Or even purchase a large quality of our art! Trust me, we’ll appreciate you for years to come! Instead of buying one my books, buy a few and gift them to loved ones or give them out at a prize for a game night!

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
“The Power of Now,” and “Unfu*k Yourself,” have grately transformed my enterpreneurial logic. They’ve helped me to stay present in my efforts without thinking about past mishaps. Both books remind their readers that they’re fully capable of being successful and that they’re not a victim of their current circumstances. They’re straight to the point about their philosophies without the fluff in between. I recommend reading or listening to them multiple times.
