We were lucky to catch up with Sachi F recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sachi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
One thing I always stress is how grateful I am for my parents support of my creativity growing up. No matter what I wanted to do as a kid, whatever my dream of the week was, they would always tell me to follow it and not let anything hold me back. When they could, they would take me to classes and programs and things like that. I think that really helped instill that comfortability I have with trying to chase my dreams and making them happen. Having a support system makes a big difference even if it isn’t direct family member. Having someone there believing in you can be that push you need to go for it. So I would say supporting me creatively and not stifling my ideas to conform with a corporate world, such as saying things like “art doesn’t make money” and things of that nature. I’m a second generation immigrant and most will tell you how important their child’s career path is to their parents and how judgmental it can get. So I appreciate them for sort of opting out of that rhetoric to believe in me and my choice. It made me dream big about what I can do as a “career” for for a living, and how as long as you put in the work and have the passion you can be successful, even if it takes a while. While that’s not always absolute because of warrying factors it’s still good to kind of have that philosophy from young because of my parents. They also always pushed investing in starting your own business and using what you can do to work for yourself.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey there! My name is Sachi, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and I am a variety content creator with passion for all things nerdy. I am a published cosplayer of 10+ years now. Mostly focusing on anime and videogame characters. I discovered cosplay through my love for Japanese street fashion and subcultures. I was already watching anime as a young child and that is actually what gatewayed me into my second passion, which is Fashion. In my “normie” life I am a showroom manager for a clothing brand and I also went to school for fashion. The character designs of the anime and games I was indulging in back then always inspired my fashion brain, with the intricate designs and details. I was a freelance fashion stylist and loved to take inspiration from those medias in my work. Through cosplay I am able to blend my two loves together. Fashion styling is about telling a story through clothing and so is cosplay and other costumes as well. Bringing that character to life through their outfits and mannerisms is what the true essence of cosplay is about. I both make my own costumes and style my own costumes myself depending on the character. I’ve tough virtual panels on things such as beginner cosplay guides, and Beginner personal style and branding tips for creators, as well as my own in-person panel “#OUTOFCOSPLAY: The Fashion Fandom Panel” where I discuss the growing connection between fashion and anime and gaming culture. Other than cosplay I’m also a variety streamer and event host and MC. I am a co-host on a fashion Podcast called AttackOnTrend that runs on the AfroPunk’s twitch channel, There I discuss the connections between fashion and design, anime, gaming, and technology. I also love to curate events locally to bring the nerdy community together. As a black nerd, even in 2024, the online space can be aggressively racist. Carving out safe spaces is important to boost the community and help it to continually grow against the negativity.
As a creator I make Cosplay, Fashion, Anime, and Gaming based content. I love to bring my own flair to the characters I cosplay, to prove that cosplay is about how you interpret the character more than being a 1to1 replica. I also do freelance personal styling with a focus on fellow creators. Not every creator is into fashion, and with the increase demand for on camera content, I like to help them discover their personal style and make it a reality within their budgets.
I’ve also helped raised money for organizations such a Black Girls Code, 1000Dreams Fund, and more. I’m passionate about using my platform for good, and through both local events such as the annual local charity event Girls Game Night that I produce with LanPartyStudios, an nyc content collective, and charity streams on my twitch channel, I always like to highlight giving back to communities me and my audience are passionate about whenever I can. I’m passionate about proving that as a creator, it’s okay not to follow the algorithm trend of sticking to only one medium, but instead sharing all your creativity with your community.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think right now we live in a time where people are choosing follow their hearts and make themselves happy first and foremost. We are witnessing artist of all kinds go full throttle into their crafts and make a living from it and I believe it’s so important to support them however you can. As a black creator, both on and offline it is always harder to be seen without racist comments or hateful negativity. Supporting a creator you follow and love can change their entire day or year. Engaging with their work is super important because unfortunately most fellow creators and artist are subjected to playing the numbers game on social media just to get seen and discovered. Even leaving a thoughtful comment can help shake the stigma of how intimidating and negative the online creator space can be. Investing in community led programs to help the growth of the respective creative community. Things like workshops ,panels, and charity events that bridge the gap between the industry and the new faces looking to enter the space helps as well. Teaching and sharing when possible, is an important foundation for any creator looking to build a support system while also giving back. I believe that creators and artist should support each other first and foremost. Nobody understands what’s its like to live in the current creative climate more than a fellow artist.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to establish myself and my content and my art well enough to build a network big enough to help foster the growth of future creatives. A huge dream of mine is create non profit programs with a focus within the same type of inner cities that I grew up in, that help inspire and teach future creatives. I think learning from young is super important to both your creative ability as well as your creative mindset. Many times, Kids that grew up in places like me are not offered any accessible programs that help to spark their inspiration with the artist world, for example: A program that teaches young kids to get into things like e-sports from young while also teaching their parents about the growing industry and how much capital is being put into it. A program that teaches young kids about the fashion industry, so that by the time they are ready to apply for colleges they will already have hands one experience. My biggest goal and dream is to break down any barriers or obstacles that I face trying to step into the creative artistic space growing up.
