We recently connected with Sabrina Walker Hernandez and have shared our conversation below.
Sabrina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My journey to my current career path is deeply rooted in my lifelong dedication to service. Growing up, I was greatly influenced by my mother, who is a missionary in the church. Her unwavering commitment to helping others and spreading hope inspired me to pursue a path of service. Additionally, I come from a family with a strong military background, including my grandfather who served in the Korean War, and my own service as an Army Veteran. These experiences instilled in me the values of commitment and leadership early on. This foundation, combined with a passion for making a positive impact, led me to the nonprofit sector. My work in business and leadership coaching and consulting, particularly through Supporting World Hope LLC, allows me to channel my experiences and passion into creating a platform that uplifts and empowers both nonprofits and small businesses.
Our mission at Supporting World Hope is to guide nonprofit organizations and small businesses toward becoming effective, change-making entities within their communities. Drawing from my own journey, I integrate strategic planning, leadership development, and inclusive excellence into my coaching and consulting practice. Our ethos is reflected in our comprehensive approach, leveraging my B.U.I.L.D. framework, which stands for Brand, Unleash, Inspire, Leverage, and Discover. This framework empowers leaders to unlock their full potential and achieve sustainable success.
Our mission is not only about providing tools and resources but also about instilling a sense of purpose and confidence in leaders. I am committed to helping others realize their visions and create a lasting impact. Through workshops, webinars, and personalized coaching, Supporting World Hope is dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence, equity, and innovation in both the nonprofit and small business worlds.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Sabrina Walker Hernandez. Due to my childhood influences, I was drawn to the nonprofit world. This life choice was reinforced during an internship as a pre-law student, where I mediated between landlords and tenants during the eviction process. I immediately decided against law school and pivoted to an MPA because I wanted to advocate for those who needed me the most. These experiences instilled in me the values of commitment and leadership early on, leading me to the nonprofit sector and eventually to founding Supporting World Hope LLC.
At Supporting World Hope, we provide a range of services designed to empower and uplift both nonprofits and small businesses. Our offerings include strategic planning, leadership development, board training, and inclusive excellence initiatives. We also offer personalized coaching and consulting services to help organizations become effective, change-making entities within their communities. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most defining moments of my journey, which truly illustrates my resilience, was when I was diagnosed with two cancers. This diagnosis came at a time when I was already navigating various challenges in my professional life, and it felt like the world had come to a standstill. Facing a serious health crisis while trying to maintain my commitments was an incredibly daunting experience.
Despite the fear and uncertainty that came with the diagnosis, I was determined not to let it derail my ambitions. I underwent rigorous treatment, which was both physically and emotionally draining. Throughout this period, I remained committed to my vision and my passion for helping others. It was during this challenging time that I decided to launch Supporting World Hope LLC.
Starting a business while battling cancer was no easy feat. There were days when the fatigue and pain seemed overwhelming, but I drew strength from my faith, my family, and my unwavering commitment to service. I knew that my experiences could inspire and empower others, and that belief kept me going. I focused on building a platform that could provide strategic planning, leadership development, and inclusive excellence to nonprofits and small businesses.
Launching Supporting World Hope during such a personal trial reinforced the importance of resilience and adaptability. It taught me that true strength lies in the ability to keep moving forward, even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. My cancer journey not only tested my limits but also deepened my empathy and understanding of the challenges others face.
Today, I am proud to say that Supporting World Hope is thriving, and we have been able to make a significant impact on the organizations we work with. This journey has made me more resilient and more dedicated to my mission. It has shown me that even in the darkest times, there is hope and the potential for growth and transformation.
I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that my work is not just professional—it’s deeply personal. My journey through cancer and the creation of Supporting World Hope are intertwined, both born out of a desire to serve, uplift, and empower. This experience has shaped the values and vision of my company, making us uniquely equipped to help others overcome their challenges and achieve their goals.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Managing a team and maintaining high morale are crucial elements for any leader striving for success. Drawing from my experience, here are 10 strategies I share during my training sessions on building superior work teams:
1. Communicate clear goals: Ensure all team members understand the team’s objectives and their individual roles in achieving them.
2. Embrace diversity: Value different skills and perspectives to drive innovation and creativity within the team.
3. Build trust: Foster a culture of reliability, transparency, and open communication.
4. Promote collaboration: Encourage mutual support and effective communication among team members.
5. Adapt your leadership style: Be flexible in your approach, adjusting to the team’s needs and development stage.
6. Establish a meaningful common purpose: Help the team collectively understand and commit to their shared mission.
7. Set clear performance goals: Define what success looks like and create a game plan to achieve it.
8. Recognize the stages of team development: Understand and guide your team through forming, storming, norming, and performing stages.
9. Adopt a transformational leadership style: Inspire change, build commitment, and foster continuous improvement.
10. Create a supportive environment: Encourage team members to achieve goals they might not realize they could reach independently.
Remember, great teams aren’t born – they’re built. By implementing these strategies, you’re not just managing a team; you’re creating a high-functioning team with strong morale, driving both individual and collective success.
