We recently connected with Sabrina Valdivia and have shared our conversation below.
Sabrina, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
One thing my parents have done right was give me the freedom to be open-minded regarding religion. My mother did not stick to just one religion because she wanted to explore the similarities and differences of many religions to see what would align with her. My father, who is a devoted Christian, was not as curious about other types of religions like my mother was, however, he still gave me the freedom to ask as many questions as possible that I had about God and spiritual values.
My mother’s willingness to explore various religions encouraged her to form her own beliefs rather than adhering to a single doctrine. As a result, this has impacted my career and my life by instilling the idea that one’s spiritual journey is personal and evolving.
Meanwhile, my father’s devotion to Christianity provided a stable foundation, yet his openness to my questions fostered an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity. To this very day, the intellectual curiosity that I have developed from my childhood experience has helped me to become more flexible, allowing me to tailor my strategies to meet the unique needs of each client, leading to more personalized and effective guidance.
I believe that this combination of an exploratory approach from my mother and the solid, yet flexible, religious grounding from my father helped me develop a well-rounded perspective on spirituality.
As a result, I have grown into a person who appreciates the diverse ways people find meaning and connection in their lives and a person who can connect more deeply with clients from various backgrounds, fostering a supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment.

Sabrina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the holistic psychology industry due to my mom’s passion for mindfulness and alternative medicine advocates such as Deepak Chopra. When my mother would watch her videos, I found myself to also be super interested in it and I took off with it immediately. That is when I knew I would be working in the field and eventually, I went on to obtain my masters in marriage and family therapy. At Spiritmind Synergy, I offer mindfulness coaching, therapy for residents living in Michigan, self-awareness journals and a mindset reframing course. All of my services and products help people who are struggling with the process of manifesting their life desires due to limited beliefs and thought patterns that come from general worry and low self-esteem. The number one thing that I am most proud of is my track record of the therapy clients that I have helped get past their anxiety. Although I cannot go into too much detail due to HIPPA laws, many of my clients have given me positive feedback due to me being able to help them alleviate their social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and panic attacks.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would definitely choose the same profession. However, I might have changed how I developed my knowledge since my master’s degree came with hefty price tag. There are a ton of certifications and trainings that can help a person develop within this profession without having to go through the turmoil of an expensive college degree.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think the most helpful thing one must achieve in this field is active listening skills when doing one on one work and doing market research. Active listening is when a person is fully concentrating, understanding, responding, and remembering what the other person is saying. This is crucial because it helps in accurately understanding the client’s needs and concerns which can be different for everyone. Without active listening, treatment goals can be obscured and then results may be very minimal. If active listening is not used within market research, it’s possible to miss big insights that can help you connect with your audience more.
