We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sabrina Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sabrina below.
Sabrina, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
2020 was the year I decided to open my business. The world had just shut down but I felt the call to open a place anyway. My husband had lost his job. Kids were home schooled now. But I knew that this was the time and God was by my side in all of this.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up in Nova Scotia Canada and then moved to Los Angeles when I was 20. I wanted to do make-up and music at the time in my life. I worked in Los Angeles as a make-up artist for 10 years. I did some amazing work with top photographers, TV, runway. I learned a lot about skin and make-up and the beauty industry. Skin care was always a part of my passion of mine and I knew I would eventually have my own business in the esthetics world. I have to say that it was smooth sailing once I decided to actually do it.
I started out renting a room in a space with two other businesses. After a year, that place closed so I moved out and went to another space which I grew out of and ended up renting an entire suite.
It was challenging working with other businessess who had different goals, ideas of customer service and work ethics. My goal and dream was to find complementary services and people who align with the same ideas and goals as me. Who wanted to help people from the inside out get healthy, feel confident and learn how to take care of their skin in a healthy more holistic way. We live in a world where everyone wants a quick fix, but there are no quick fixes. I wanted to create a space where woman could come and feel loved, accepted for who they are and let go of anything that isnt serving them. The wellness Center is that! And I have atarted to find the right people.
It takes a lot of patience, intention and drive to do this. The hardest parts have been actually learning the business side of owning a business. Finding trustworthy accountants, business managers, employees. And the balance between family and work life. I am so fortuniate my kids get to watch their mom build her dreams. I hope it encourages them to do the same.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A little over 2 years ago, I lost one of my sisters. After that, things seemed to change for me. I got really intentional with my manifestation journal, writing down what I wanted and when I wanted it by. My dream was to create a wellness center where different practioners would come together, hoilistic medicine, energy work, facials, and be in one location. A place where people could come and experience wellness from the inside out. So every day I wrote it down. “I have a wellness center on or before September 1 2022.”
June of 2022 came around and the room I was renting was no longer going to be available. The landlord wanted everyone out by the end of the month so, I had 4 weeks to find a place, set it up and continue working with my clients who were already booked two months in advance.
Long story short, I didnt find another room to rent, I found an entire suite, two buildings down from where I was. Some friends helped me put in new floors and get the rooms workable and we were up and running by July 1st.
I guess the story of resilience here is that even though It may not have been how I planned on it coming together, it came together even better. I feel so grateful to be blessed with such a dream.
