We recently connected with Sabrina Ruiz and have shared our conversation below.
Sabrina, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
As a young female professional, freshly graduated from college, and newly seeking a career in the health and wellness space, it can be difficult to start. In health coaching, there are so many different routes you can take, whether that be practicing in a clinical setting, in group coaching, in an emphasis in something specific, etc. When I began my private practice, I decided I wanted to create a brand/practice that was very personal and represented me and my values. The health and wellness space online is highly saturated with information and advice. Finding your own personal relationship with your health and what it means to you can be overwhelming. I wanted to create a space where people were encouraged to take matters into their own hands, by tuning in to their intuition and what they need as individuals. I am such an advocate for listening to our inner wisdom, because it is so powerful! So I took the next step to create a brand that I felt was under represented and undervalued in a world were so much profit is made from selling products or ideas.
My advice to someone who is trying to begin their own practice – find a gap that feels true to you, and fill it. You have so much to offer as an individual. Just remember that being yourself rather than adding to the chatter is not only refreshing, but it leads to success.
Sabrina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yes! Hi, I’m Sabrina. I am a certified holistic health coach and specialize in intuitive eating and self-love. I work 1-1 with clients to help them reach all of their wellness and health-related goals. As a health coach, I help support, guide, and hold clients accountable in order to make sustainable lifestyle changes. I am passionate about diet and nutrition, but I know that health is so much more than just what you eat! Wellness comes from mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health as well, so I like to honor that in my practice.
Everybody’s health depends on different things, some people might thrive in busy, innovative environments, while others need calm and peaceful daily routines. True health and wellness is a journey not a destination. I am looking to guide clients through their journey in finding health for themselves. The main principles that I aim attention at in my practice are balance, intuition, and happiness. Most people know what they need to change or be doing to become their healthiest, happiest selves, but just need someone like me to encourage and support them through their process. I want to help connect you to your inner-wisdom in order to sustain those long lasting results.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think that hearing about other peoples struggles and ailments all day long, especially when you are working in the clinical health coaching setting, it can be difficult to navigate. Especially being a highly sensitive person, I found that when I first started coaching, I often felt emotionally charged or drained after work. I think that walking your talk and protecting your energy in order to serve others best is important and something that I continue to work on. I always say- even health coaches need health coaches, therapists need therapists, and doctors need doctors! I have found that it is ok to seek out mentors or supportive community groups that can help provide advice, intel, or support as I continue my journey as a health coach.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
1000% yes. I love what I do so much. I find it so rewarding to see my clients/patients heal themselves over time. I find so much fulfillment in the excitement that sparkles in my clients eyes as they walk through my office door or as they wave through their zoom screen. It fills me to see them motivated and achieving what they set their mind to. I try to stay neutral and unbiased as much as I can in my practice, but when it comes time to celebrate a big win, count me in!
Health coaching is highly rewarding as a job. It allows me to incorporate all of the things I love into one job- creativity, helping others, food and fitness, spirituality, laughter, creating content, problem solving, and sooo much more!
