We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sabrina Newby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sabrina below.
Hi Sabrina , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was stepping from business ownership and community advocacy into a run for the Georgia State House. For years, I worked behind the scenes, supporting entrepreneurs, serving families, and pushing for change. But I reached a point where advocacy wasn’t enough. Decisions at the state level were shaping our schools, our small businesses, and our military families, and I knew I could do more from inside the process than outside it.
Running for office meant risking my privacy, my comfort, my business reputation, and even some relationships. It opened me to public scrutiny and the possibility of failure. But it also allowed me to stand fully in my values and fight for the community I love.
The risk pushed me to grow, lead more boldly, and connect with people on a deeper level. It taught me that sometimes the only way to create real change is to step into the arena yourself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a community‑centered leader, business owner, and advocate who has dedicated my career to expanding access and opportunity for families and small businesses. My work began in entrepreneurship, where I saw firsthand how many people were navigating systems without the resources or support they needed. That experience led me to found the Coastal Georgia Minority Chamber of Commerce, an organization focused on helping underserved business owners gain the tools, connections, and confidence to grow.
As my work deepened, I stepped into broader civic and policy roles, serving on boards and committees focused on women’s leadership, voting rights, and community development. Whether through the League of Women Voters, Georgia WIN List, or the Georgia or National Federation of Democratic Women, I’ve focused on helping people understand how policy shapes their daily lives and how their voices can influence change.
What sets me apart is my approach: I lead with transparency, compassion, and a commitment to listening. I don’t believe in surface‑level engagement, I believe in showing up, doing the work, and helping people navigate challenges with clarity and respect.
I’m most proud of the impact I’ve had on individuals and families, entrepreneurs who launched their businesses, young leaders who found their voice, and community members who became more engaged in local decision‑making. My brand is rooted in empowerment and integrity. At the core of everything I do is a simple mission: to open doors, create opportunities, and ensure every person has a fair chance to succeed.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I built my reputation by consistently showing up, doing the work, and being someone people can trust. I communicate clearly, lead with integrity, and focus on real impact, not titles or attention. People know I’m dependable, honest, and committed to serving the community, and that’s what set me apart.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was believing that change happens just because you get involved. I learned quickly that showing up isn’t enough, systems don’t shift on passion alone. Real change takes power, access, and the courage to step into the rooms where decisions are actually made. Unlearning that made me stronger, sharper, and far more intentional about how I lead.
