Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sabrina Metz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sabrina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Consistency truly is key. By maintaining a unique and consistent appearance in a product, you become trustworthy to your clients. This is so important, because clients will always have the comfort of knowing what they are investing in and feeling confident in what they will receive in return.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I became interested in photography around the age of 15. My parents bought me my first digital camera-a little blue Canon Powershot. You’d rarely see me without it and I was always the one to step up and capture those memorable moments with friends and family. Once I got into college, it took a few attempts at other pursuing other majors before I realized nothing else but photography would ever allow me to feel fulfilled. I decided to invest in a DSLR and take a 2 year course and in 2017 I earned my Associates in Media Arts Production. I immediately started advertising my services online through social media. I started small by offering low rate sessions, various raffles and asking friends to let me practice shooting with them. Before I knew it, I booked a few low budget weddings and got some real experience under my belt. Over the last 6 years I’ve continued to grow my small business and make many sacrifices along the way in order to upgrade my equipment so I could shoot and edit more professionally. Today, I have a thriving business where I offer primarily photography services and occasional videography services. I am so proud of over coming the odds throughout the years and for pursing a career I genuinely love. One of my favorite parts about being a photographer is capturing moments in a real and raw way. I love to not only initiate authentic reactions when capturing special moments, but to always showcase them in a vibrant and natural light-this includes my post production editing. My goal is always for people to look back on their photos and remember what it felt like when they were living in that moment.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One major resource that I wish I had known about early in my creative journey is online tutorials. While I absolutely would not trade a single friendship or memory I made in college, I do look back and realize now that I had so many of the things I learned in school already at my finger tips. I am proud to have earned my degree, being the first in my family to do so, but I can confidently say that it was not a make or break accomplishment. There are so many free resources out there that can be taken advantage of.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Some ways that I have been able to build a positive reputation within the photography market is by being consistently communicative and meeting deadlines as promised. It’s imperative to set goals and make plans with clients and follow through with them to the best of your abilities. When things aren’t going quite to plan, I always communicate with the client to solve the issue before allowing them the opportunity to question what’s going on. Clients should never be left in the dark about the scheduling of receiving their product.
