Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sabrina Klein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sabrina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business really started during the COVID pandemic. I needed a source of income and a way to keep busy. I knew I needed to start small so I bought some materials from the craft store and make some candles for friends and family. After months of research and practice, I had my first sale. I knew this would be a worthwhile adventure when I received the feedback from my customers and the happiness they got from their purchase. It feels like the right path because I can work on it in my own time while supporting my family. I am excited to try new techniques in the future when I am able to expand and improve my products even further.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the candle making business during college in order to find a channel to put my energy into. It really started off as a hobby and blossomed into a small business to try and make a little extra income. I currently am focusing on wax melts and candles as my base products but in the near future would like to expand to more product options such as skin care and room sprays. My candles are made from 100% soy, which is a natural and renewable product, and is better for the environment and users. Many candles on the market are made from paraffin wax, which is petroleum based and is less safe for you and the environment. Soy candles have a cleaner burn than paraffin, emit less carbon dioxide, and the wax burns slower leading to a longer lasting candle. I am most proud of my dedication to get the customer exactly what they are looking for. I offer a multitude of scent and container options to cater to many preferences.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clientele is from my family and friends. The people in my life have been the biggest supporters and have helped get the word about my business to the public. Family events, birthday parties, weddings, and Christmas gifts are really where my customers have been coming through and supporting me.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Right when I started advertising my products for sale, the pandemic hit and many people, including myself, lost their main sources of income. Sales plummeted due to the state of the world and people’s hard earned money going to necessities. It was difficult to afford supplies to continue making inventory, but also hard to get the inventory to sell. Finally, after over a year of patience and contemplating of it was worth staying open, I started getting orders again. It was a difficult journey, but with lots of support and patience, I made it through.
