Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sabrina Keeton-Hill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sabrina , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Growing up as a young adult I always had a passion to help others. I had thoughts on becoming a pediatrician when I grew up. As I was blossoming into a young woman, I suffered through reproductive challenges. Constantly going through different approaches to figure out the reason why was very frustrating for me. There was one point in my life when I met a doctor that worked with me on different approaches that I never experienced is what shinned a different light for me. I’m grateful of what I learned and what she taught me. At that moment I knew that I wanted to help others the way she helped me. Moving forwarded from what I already learned, I started having a passion to learn more about natural , holistic practices. The hunger for wanting to learn more about holistic practices is what lead me to wanting to open up a health and wellness business. I knew this would work because it was a different pathway that could help teach and educate others on how they too can get the results that they are seeking for.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a mother, wife and a business owner. It all started when I started my own path with self-care and holistic practices for myself. I was taught by many teachers and schools like Queen Afua, IIN (Institute of Integrative Nutrition) , Akua Gray, Herbal Artist Network, and many others. Through all of my education , I started to implement them into my own life and started to see the results that I desired. In 2019 is when I opened up my own business. I hosted a health and wellness event in April of 2019 called Queens United Wellness Week. It was a free event opened to the public to bring awareness about health and wellness. There was a series of workshops, resources and vendors. I was so proud of myself because at the moment that I opened and hosted the event, I was still working my 9-5. Through the grace of God, support and love from family & friends it was a successful event. Through the years after 2019 , I would host the event each year to bring awareness, resources and education to the community. I’m also a proud member of the Maternal Wellness Village . The Maternal Wellness Village functions as an action oriented task force by providing support services to empower communities of color. As I built my business, I was grateful to learn how to protect the business I was building from Rosezena The Bizlawyer. The hard work and dedication that you put into your business has to be protected.
The type of products and services that I provide are health coaching (Gut Health, Whole health and Detox your life), herbal education, womb wellness and reiki education, herbal tea blends, tinctures, natural salves, and cultural fashion with Queens United Apparel. I opened my health and wellness boutique in January of 2023 located in Drexel Hill. The boutique was opened to the community to provide health and wellness products. The personal shopping experience that you would receive is not only education but also access to other home based business that create natural , organic products that assist with your mind , body and soul.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
The initial capital that I put together to start my business was funded by my 9-5 business. I would save the extra money that I accumulated to put towards my goal. I also worked an extra job to help put into the funding account that I created for my business. I did learn along the way about business loans and how to apply for them but I never took action to pursue them.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I would say the most effective strategy for growing my clientele would be referrals, networking and reviews.
